In a frank discussion with the media this morning we heard from Swansea City manager Russell Martin that Morgan Whittaker wasn’t brought back to sell on this January transfer window. Speaking prior to the Bristol City FA Cup tie today Martin explained again that Morgan is back to add value to the swans squad.
Although the Swansea side Martin selects on Sunday may look a bit different to his normal selections a huge Swansea support will travel to Ashton Gate for Sundays 12.30am kick off.
On Morgan Whittaker and his recall to Swansea from Plymouth Martin cleared up the numerous bits of speculation as to the reasons why he is back in the fold. Admitting the player will be disappointed at the recall Martin also stated he had not been brought back for any imminent transfer. "We are going to sit down today and have a really good chat. The game is full of disappointment but it’s how you deal with that really. We need him to show and replicate what they got out of him at Plymouth. He needs to work really hard to get an opportunity”
Martin was also probed on the speculation Morgan was brought back to be sold. The swans boss was clear. "No, Josh and Julian and the owners take on it is similar to ours. He is back here and he needs to force his way in to the team really. If offers do come in we have to take a look at them, the same as the guys we have been speaking about recently. He now has a good bit of time to reintroduce himself the way we train, the role ‘he might’ play in and the different shapes we’ve been playing recently”
Of course there’s always going to be speculation, be that ill fitting words in to ill thought out prose on certain social media. Opinion that really doesn’t fit what is actually being said by the manager. Just reinforced, jumbled and amateurish reflections poor speculation. We have heard it now that Morgan hasn’t been brought back in to the club sell on. Clearly unless Russell Martin is a bare faced liar ( and his press briefings only display an open and at times too honest man ) then this is the state of play.
Morgan should be greeted like a new signing who has torn up a few trees in league one, a new fresh faced player with the energy and drive to get in to the Swansea team and stake a place in it for the season. We believe he has that ability, and we also believe he will be given that opportunity.
