Any hopes for the Swans to get in to the third round of this competition were shattered after an awful twenty five minutes at the start of the second half. Leading through a Matt Grimes ninth minute penalty it all fell apart over the second forty five.

The Swans were well worth their money after a first half where they displayed purpose and quality against premier league opposition. A handball saw the home side go ahead after Matt Grimes slotted away a ninth minute penalty. It could have been more but the visitors defended admirably under Swansea pressure. When the Cherries did get forwards they didn’t look too dangerous, Rushworth had a few run of the mill saves to make but nothing to concern him.
It was the changes that Bournemouth made at half time that won them this game. Solanke especially coming on for Kiefer Moore. His introduction was key and the Swans defence really couldn’t deal with him and Cook who took ahold of the game from the restart. Really it could have and should have been a lot more for the visitors, The pace and tempo of Bournemouth left the likes of Kyle Naughton all at sea as well as Harry Darling who despite battling bravely just wasn’t up to the mark in this game. David Brooks was enjoying the freedom of the city on the Swans left, marauding forwards with little to stop him. It was his goal which turned the game in his sides favour. Left in acres of space on fifty five minutes he couldn’t fail but to score, the inquest in that defensive howler would be enough for one game. But there was more.
The Swansea defence looked like they only met each other in the car park before the game as one became two on sixty eight minutes. With five Swans players stationary in their own area Solanke headed a Brooks cross against the bar and Traore hammered home the rebound. Not one white shirt responded to the action in front of them.
Surprisingly and against the run of play the Swans did level through a well struck shot from sub Jamie Paterson, his shot flashing in off the post. It was a cracking goal. The home side did come alive for a few minutes after that and Michael Duff replaced Naughton with Jerry Yates. However it would be victory for Bournemouth as their unbeaten run against the Swans since 2007 hit twelve games. There has to be an inquest in to how this Swans side performed tonight. They really could have lost by six or seven, it was only a few offside shouts and a lovely save from Carl Rushworth that kept the score down.
Ryan Christie scored the winner for the Cherries with Keir Starmer watching from the stands, that’s one win from six for the Swans this season as Bristol City arrive on Saturday for an early kick off atbthe Swansea.Com Stadium.

78 - The Swans have a corner after good work from Paterson. And it’s Paterson who scores from distance to make it 2-2. The scoreline flatters the Swans. The corner is cleared and comes out to Paterson, who fires in a low left-footed drive that comes all the way through a host of bodies to cannon into the net off the far post.

Solanki misses a wonderful chance in front of Rushworth but his header goes straight at the keeper.

Overall the swans are good value for their lead at HT. They haven’t looked at all out of place and the handball for the penalty was sound. Referee had no problem giving the spot kick. Really could be more had there been a quicker reaction to opportunities in the area. Swans did though look a bit Rooney at the back.
