A frustrating afternoon for Swansea City when their two goal lead was clawed back by a lively Hull City at the Swansea.Com Stadium. In fact Hull had a goal ruled out and several other chances to take the lead in an energetic display from Liam Rosenior’s side. It all ends in disappointment for the Swans fans that attended this game, and clearly now it’s evident many are not attending at all.
The first half of this match came to life after Jamie Paterson (below) scored a superb goal following a sharp build up. He again was involved after another well struck effort was saved by Ryan Allsop but he couldn’t hold on to it as a Jerry Yates beat two Hull defenders to the ball to a lot it home. The Swans definitely started slowly and on nine minutes an injury to Harrison Ashby which saw him leaving the field holding his hamstring. Harry Darling came on in the right back position. Josh Key was on the bench, but obviously not fit otherwise he would have been a like for like replacement.
The Swans continued to set about their game plan, slick passing and looking to expose Hull by playing through the lines. One effort, a glancing header from Jamal Lowe went close to extending the Swans lead and Ollie Cooper also fired wide with the half coming to a close. Hull City were by no means out of the game and they too made Swans keeper Carl Rushworth produce three saves that he made look easy, they were not.
As the game was in its final minute of injury time a wonderful move by the Swans ended with another well struck effort from Paterson which whistled just wide. The half - once the Swans got to grips with matters was possibly the best we have seen this season. The second ha,f promised a lot more.
The second half started with no Swansea changes, once Swans loanee, Cyrus Christie came on for Joe McLoughlin. The Swans looked lively from the start and it’s clear Duff is inspiring his charges to get forwards whenever possible. Paterson again was lively and the Swans fought for every second pressing the visitors high. However, the inspired substitution by Hull coach Liam Rosenior ( Christie ) saw a far more energetic start for them as well. Chrsities’s impact was immediate as a cross ball found Jaden Philogene who fired his shot in to the Swans net. If there is an issue with Rushworth’s keeping it’s on his right hand side, that was obviously noticed by Hull, and the goal made sure this wasn’t going to be one way.
A wonderful Swans move on fifty three minutes saw Matt Grimes come close to scoring with a shot on the volley. This was now end to end. It has to be said Hull were looking the more likely to score, their energy doubled from their first half showing. To prove that - a Hull goal by Liam Delap to equalise was scratched off after fifty eight minutes. However, the warning signs were there when a move at pace resulted in a well taken equaliser by Jayden Bowen. Again to the Swans jeers right hand side. Liam Walsh came on for the last twenty minutes and almost earned his side a third goal. Both sides had chances after that but it was clear the Swans had lost their way and really at the end of this game they will be pretty happy because they could have easily lost this game.
