Deal Close As Saints Boss Confirms One More Signing Expected

Southampton manager Russell Martin has said that he expects to make one more signing in the transfer window, whilst sources in the media are already claiming that this signing is very close.

The Daily Echo has spoken to Russell Martin about the last few days of the transfer window and the Saints manager has revealed that he is expecting at least one man in and hopeful that none would go out.

"I hope that we add one more player to the squad and that we don’t lose any of ours.

"We are going to have to wait and see. It is the hope that kills you.”

The main priority is a winger with it public knowledge now that after selling Nathan Tella to Bayer Leverkusen, the agreed deal with his replacement, fell through and the manager feels his team are a little weak on the right because of that.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw is a good prospect, but Martin feels that he is not quite ready yet, despite his good showing in the latter stages of the draw at Watford.

"We will still sign a winger for sure, he is only a 17 year old kid with a huge amount of potential.

"The game really suited him towards the end because he could be free without any defensive responsibility on him."

Although some Saints supporters are keen that Amo-Ameyaw should be given more game time, Martin is right, he has to be used with care and be brought on carefully to grow his experience and confidence.

The media seem to be sure just who that winger will be, footballfancast.com are quoting respected reporter Sacha Tavolieri on his X account that Southampton & Burnley are close to an agreement for Manual Benson.
