Swansea on Sunday : The hottest property in the Championship ?

You can be rest assured that the name Ronald Pereira Martins is going to appear on a number of Premier League scouts notebooks for the rest of this season. Especially after yesterdays performance at Sunderland.

His six Swansea appearances have in the main been positive, and yesterday Ronald capped off an away win with two first half goals. We know where he came from and covered his arrival in January here on the Indy. There’s an insight below.

⚽️ How the Swans captured Ronald

⚽️ Capturing Ronald

Overall Ronald took a little while to find his feet in the game at Sunderland but when he did his pace and speed of thought outwitted the Sunderland defence. His game awareness for his two goals, especially the first was a true sign of his intelligence off the ball. His first goal a well positioned shot to open the scoring at the stadium of light, the second a precision finish after a wonderful pass from Joe Allen. The new manager factor or should we say sacked manager factor was a concern, but in Mick Dodds the Black Cats had little answer to the intensity of the Swans in the first half.

Ronald possesses what every club wants out on the touchline. He has pace, determination, strength and commitment plus now the ability to score goals. As raw as he is at the moment he fits the profile of the ‘player trading model’ the majority owners love so much. Buy in cheaply (well, a million pounds) and sell for a large profit. As it stands Ronald does have a lot more to prove despite Swans head coach, Luke Williams stating, "Ronald deserved both the goals. He's deserved one or two more key actions in previous games. He was a huge threat. He's so quick and direct and I'm really happy for him. We need now to try and improve so that we can control longer periods of the game. The opposition was brilliant in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure but on the flip side I saw the team defending well."

Ronald has played just six games for the Swans, his goals yesterday and overall performance will have alerted a number of clubs, and you can be rest assured many will come to watch the player. With the Swans keen to move on their better players you can also be certain the brief from the hierarchy at the Swans will be very clear. Utilise your contacts and let the football world know he will at some point be available. That’s the sad thing about the current ownership, they sell the best and that’s why we find ourselves unsuccessful in the main in the Championship. It isn’t a flawed approach, if it can be maintained as it has been at Brighton as an example it can stabilise a club year on year. However, many have commented that the players are running out for this to continue. That was very much the case until Paul Watson stepped in and co-ordinated the signing of a player who is exciting, fresh and who possesses all the talents every football fan wants to see.

Paul Watson has had some stick from the Swans support this season, however in amongst all that he has positively brought in Ronald, Josh Tymon (fast becoming player of the season) and Placheta from Norwich. Placheta will be available as a free transfer / out of contract player come the summer as well. He has also been involved in close negotiations with Brighton’s Chief Operations Manager, Paul Mullen and the cleverly announced retention of Carl Rushworth yesterday by Luke Williams was down to Watson. The move also included some dialogue with Andrew Weir, and overall Swans fans must be happy with that bit of business being completed in double quick time.

The positivity of the result yesterday was incredible really. The weekend is most surely a better place after three points no matter how they are earned. And Ronald spinning the north east on its head was the topping we all wanted. Blackburn Rovers next week then.
