Swansea City have received a number of player inquiries

Swansea City have been talking to clubs over the past weeks who have expressed an interest in several players, one we are told is Nathan Wood with Southampton rumoured to be interested. Wood is now on the last year of his contract having had it extended prior to the end of last season.

However, there are other players of interest, you can take your pick between Ben Cabango and Harry Darling but we also understand one is a forward. One of the inquires has been from a club wanting to take a player on loan. The Swans will of course welcome any interest in any player with certain members of the squad surplus to requirements. If head coach Luke Williams wants certain players in more will have to leave. Macauley Langstaff remains his top target but to get Jodie Jones as well would be a perfect start to the clubs dealings.

There has been a significant payment in from Leeds United for Joel Piroe which has already been factored in to the summer budget. As much as the Swans would like to get business done regards players leaving before the end of the month, it’s unlikely they will. And the club most certainly won’t be hard balled in to any cheap sales. The club has few real assets, Wood is the obvious one but Azeem Abdulai has stirred interest too.

This is all being reflected in the profit & sustainability rules, either for this year which ends at the end of this month for declaration in 2025, or roles over to 2026. It very much depends on the Swans strategy over this season, the finances and of course how those late summer transfer in and out last year are reflected.

We had an exploration into that recently.

⚽️ Profit & Sustainability

Two players earmarked to leave either on loan or permanently are Kristian Pedersen and Nathan Tjoe-A-On (above) Both had pretty poor loan spells last season. Nathan, now twenty two saw just fifteen minutes of game time over the whole period of his loan at SC Heerenveen. Pedersen, who is thirty in August played 139 minutes of football on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. He didn’t complete a full game. He was out for four weeks with a groin injury, but he never really made an impact at the club. The Swans will be keen to sort some business with interested clubs. However, is Nathan able to compete for a place in defence next season ? It’s highly unlikely. The same can be said for Pedersen.

Williams expects bids for Wood and has been quite open about it, he told the BBC, "As head coaches, you can see the quality of a player on the pitch but unless you have worked with them, it’s very difficult to get a grasp of their personality. Unfortunately, Russell has worked with Nathan Wood and knows what a gem he is. I know there has been interest, then when we played Southampton they talked about how much they liked him, which is normal. I guess that interest hasn’t vanished, so I would expect them to be at least one of the clubs who are interested in him now.”

The facts are out there and agents are more than aware, especially those working with clubs, in Southampton’s case they know more than enough about Wood. There won’t be much hesitation if they are interested. What the Swans need is another club to come in and start a bidding war as such. The price goes up and the club reap the financial rewards.
