Saints Linked With Move For Ex Player From West Ham
With just over 48 hours left till the transfer window slams shut, it has been reported that James Ward Prowse's agents are working hard to get him out of West Ham United after just over a year at the club.
It was reported a week or so ago that Hammers manager Julen Loptegui has deemed James Ward Prowse surplus to requirements this season and teamtalk.com have revealed that Southampton are interested in bringing their former Captain back to the club.
They also reveal that West Ham are prepared to take a loss on their investment last August, but they are looking to start the bidding at £25 million and that could be a stumbling block for Southampton.
TEAMtalk go on to say that the Hammers want to sell several players to ensure they are compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
The London club have spent £123.4m on new signings this summer – making them the eighth-highest spending club in Europe as things stand.
They now need to balance the books.
Saints seem to have funded their bid for Aaron Ramsdale by the sale of Charly Alcaraz and if they were to sign JWP, they would probably need to get someone else or perhaps two player out of the club to fund the deal.
But of they do sign Ramsdale permanently, they they would still have a loan option from a Premier League club and could well do a deal for Ward Prowse that way.
Teamtalk say Other Premier League clubs are interested in the midfielder but they understand that he would seriously consider a return to the Saints should the opportunity present itself.

Burgess and Key errors hand Stoke City the pointsThe Swans could have come away from this game with a point but two errors gave Stoke City the win today. And when there was opportunity to decrease the lead for half an hour in the second half the choices made were beyond poor. Adam Idah not acknowledging a decent travelling Swansea support didn’t go down well either at the end. Some would say the involvement of Josh Key and Cameron Burgess in this game was an error by Swansea head coach, Vitor Matos. Key especially.
Stoke v Swans : The biggest test so far for MatosThe goals are flying in from distance this past few weeks, and some have been spectacular, Liam Cullen adding to the collection on Tuesday with another strike. In fact the turnaround on shots on goal to the eye is quite breathtaking. Especially when the ball is hitting the back of the net.
The Swansea player who killed himself at the Vetch, Uri Geller and his dark spirits …Being someone with a thirst for history and its connections to the club I have followed all my life I was quite taken by the story of Tich Evans, a Swansea player who signed for the club for £100 at the end of World War One. In fact it all came to light when Uri Geller came to the Vetch Field and spoke of ‘dark spirits’ in the old centre stand.
Cullen strike as Matos celebrates his first double ! Vitor Matos grabbed his second win on the bang as the Swans beat Portsmouth in what can only be described as a mediocre game by recent Swansea standards. Mediocre it may well have been but these are the games to win, and this was one hell of a six pointer. In this crazy league that puts the Swans eight points off the play offs and six from the last relegation spot.
