Swansea City : Sorry Luke, but this simply isn’t working

The Swans failed to show up in the Welsh derby and made a mockery of the shirt they were wearing. ‘They may as well have spat on the badge’ was one comment as the fans left the ground. They were so angry, so annoyed and many now see little in Luke Williams remaining at the club. It was a pathetic attempt by a weak willed team to play a game of football.

Swansea City played their way into their usual game of inconsistency, weak play and complete negativity this afternoon in the Welsh derby. Tactically inept and lacking quality as we have seen for the majority of the season. Every time the ball was received it was given away or negatively passed backwards. One chance in the first half fell to Franco who put the ball over the bar. The weakness from crosses into the Cardiff area was embarrassing. And this game was won by a team who passed the ball and preyed upon the shocking weaknesses in the Swans play.

Even after Cardiff went 2-0 up after a pathetic back pass the Swans looked lost and devoid of any ideas. Yes, this was a game which Cardiff could at last rinse themselves of the embarrassment of the last ten years, but a ridiclious mindset by Swansea where the couldn’t even block a challenge and pick up the second phase of play destroyed them all through this fixture. Open spaces began to appear in the Swans defence, scurrying players lost in the fact they were the team who has no desire or motivation. We can’t pick out any players who did well, we saw none.

How can you when the team is so embarrassing and clueless ?

Persistently just running into the opposition constantly, falling over and completely unaware of their surroundings, we could go on but the shouts from a packed away end were clear, Luke Williams needs to go. The lack of motivation and tactical nouse was exposed from a set piece corner which gave Cardiff their third goal. How can any defence allow that space and domination in their own area ?

Yes, Cardiff got away with a penalty after a foul on Key in the area. Key also headed wide when in front of goal. That was shocking. A corner on seventy three minutes summed up this pathetic display
on seventy three minutes. Confused ideas leading to another set piece falling apart. A small form of a fight back with the ball being headed off the line was too little too late. The game was already lost. The real annoying part of the game came when Kyle Naughton came on for Josh Key when the Swans were chasing goals.

What tactical coach does this ?

As a club the Swans away fixtures are thrown away, given away or not competed for at any level. Hull, Portsmouth, Southampton and now Cardiff. Swansea City were pathetic today, always second, never displaying any type of aggression whatsoever. The big question now is why bother letting Luke fly off to Holland ? The Chairman, Andrew Coleman has to gather his thoughts and ask himself the question - is this the coaching set up to deliver for Swansea City at any point this season or next ?

If he doesn’t then forego any transfers and do what you will inevitably have to do now. If he believes there’s a future for Luke and his team then please come out and say so. At this moment in time very few Swans fans will agree if he does. Fielding embarrassing teams with little tactical awareness isn’t the head coach’s job, he needs to motivate and employ strategies that make sense to the players. He clearly cannot at this time. So, Cardiff win the game, they now have won three games out of thirteen, they will be happy. However there surely isn’t any worth in beating this Swansea side, they are inept and run by an inexperienced manager at this level. If you disagree you disagree, that’s fair. But there won’t be many who do.

Holland next for Luke, but what’s the point ?
