Swans are ready for Preston test : Bodde, James loans n’all

The Swans will be at Deepdale the home of Preston North End this coming Tuesday evening. The Lillywhites dumped Burnley out of the FA Cup yesterday to move into the Quarter Finals. The Swans will have had at least seven good days working with interim head coach, Alan Sheehan on the run up to this fixture.

We have been told that Sheehan has very much been working on team strategy this past week which as we saw last weekend worked wonderfully defeating play off chasing Blackburn Rovers. That may sound obvious but Sheehan most certainly won’t be playing the Luke Williams way and the time he has had couldn’t have come at a better time for him and the squad. The only other information we have had is that Zan Vipotnik is likely to start in what is a new lease of life, albeit just one game and Myles Peart-Harris will also be included barring any late developments.

Deepdale will give Swans fans happy memories over the years, that fantastic win there to get promoted into what was then the first division of English football in 1981. Taking on and beating many top flight sides. One Leighton James in that promotion game curling in a fantastic goal in front of thousands of Swansea City fans.

Of course there was ‘that goal’ scored by Ferrie Bodde (above) back in September 2008 when he was at the peak of his powers. Having signed a three year deal with the Swans after putting in a transfer request with interest from Wigan, he quickly changed his mind. Unfortunately Ferrie then went through many knee injuries and operations on both legs and was placed in an artificial coma for five days in 2014 with a life threatening infection. Ferrie displayed his potential at the Swans and was listed in the Swansea City Premier League squad for their first season in the top league. Unfortunately Ferrie never made his debut that season and after so many operations and set backs Swansea released him at the end of that campaign. It’s interesting to note that first season in the Premier League the Swans had twelve Welsh players in their squad.

Preston have won two out of their last six games as have the Swans, the Lillywhites sit two points above Swansea City in a very congested league table. The Swans twelve points from the play offs and nine above relegation. The teams below have hit form, a few examples, Cardiff who were knocked out of the FA Cup on Friday evening by Aston Villa (after signing anti Swansea songs throughout the game) do look on recent form to be escaping the bottom three. Last weekends Swansea win does give us all a lot of hope that the fifty point mark can be reached before the last few games of the season. There are eleven to go now, and the winnable matches have to be won, not thrown away or any repeat of some of the dreadful performances we have seen this year. The league table before Tuesday night is below.

Plymouth Argyle seem to be the most likely to put on a surge after positive recent form which will pull Hull City back into the mix. Oxford United have only one win in eight and their big game comes next midweek away at Hull. Fixtures this Tuesday are below. The other big game at the bottom is Hull v Plymouth. After Tuesday the Swans have Middlesbrough at home on Saturday before taking on Watford the following Wednesday evening at Vicarage Road. Plenty of big games to come with the top six very much off our minds as the relegation battles begin to intensify.

With the fans forum now off again, this gives this website and Jackarmy.net time to plan properly after an invite by the club pre the cancelled forum. The two biggest Swans websites for fans are again at one with this and will attend together once the parameters are set and who will be representing the club. We both do things professionally and talk often on Swans news, rumours, confirmed information and a whole host of other matters.

⚽️ Swans on loan
As a positive and hard working Swans site we have to give praise to young Kyrell Wilson on loan from the Swans who bagged a goal for Yeovil in the national league yesterday. This in a 2-2 home draw with Southend United. Heartbreak though with a last few seconds equaliser for the away side. In six games Kyrell has scored his first goal and provided two assists. Excellent work. Mention also for Joel Cotterill who is on loan at Swindon Town, he scored the only goal of the game away at Walsall. That’s his third this season, second in four games, he also has two assists to his name. Cameron Congreve on loan at Bromley Is getting regular game time, he has four goals and three assists to his name at this point. All very encouraging.
