Manchester City 3-0 The Arse
Carling Cup team is predictably swept aside by a full strength City.
Last season Manchester City showed no mercy in the league game at Eastlands, after we had just been humiliated by Aston Villa at the Grove and it was the same story this year, following Chelsea’s swaggering demolition on Sunday, albeit against a deliberately weakened Arsenal.
We just about held our own in the first half but our fragile players withered in the second, allowing Manchester City to power three impressive strikes beyond Fabianksi. The decisive blows struck by Chelsea on the weekend were matched by players at the peak of their careers and it is no coincidence that, in contrast, we have failed to find the net against domestic opposition since Robin van Persie fell victim to the ridiculous international friendly schedule.
Despite Wenger appearing to have an embarrassment of riches in the final third, the Dutchman’s absence has left a huge hole that none of our identikit, lightweight attacking midfielders can fill. Manchester City away in the Carling Cup was always going to be a tough assignment but the manner of the defeat was so similar to the Chelsea game that this demoralising period threatens to suffocate all confidence out of the squad.
Suddenly, defeat in every game seems plausible, at least Stoke will be the away side on Saturday but their boisterous approach is the last thing we need, despite the 4-1 victory we achieved in the final game of last season against Tony Pulis’ men.

Swansea City : Jack Butty sails again with his cannons primed The vultures were circling overhead. The bleached bones of the dead lay all around. Wait…a movement…a moving hand. A hen peckered face turns to the light and screams out, ‘Jack Butty here. I’m back with my latest missive from the defiles of dreadful duplicity.’ The cheers of voices were raised. Jack Butty looked around, ‘You lot can pipe down. You’re all gonners and gooners.’ And so, it came to pass…
Swans collapse in a disastrous seventy five minutes of football A brilliant start from Swansea City this afternoon dived into another order from the menu of disastrous football. Starters of no idea after fifteen minutes, with a main course of incompetence and a big desert of stupidity. Big game weekend : Players, Focus, Mason v Matos & a reality check Swansea City travel to the midlands today with one focus, do not lose the game and begin to rebuild the fans confidence in the team. Vitor Matos : Counter press, counter press, counter pressVitor Matos took his first full training session today prior to the West Bromwich Albion game at the Hawthorns on Saturday (3pm) With tickets still on sale for the fixture at generous prices the Swans can again expect a noisy supoort for this game.
Swansea City : The glaringly obvious and Matos agrees Vitor Matos saw a determined Swansea side for the first half an hour of last nights defeat against Derby County. The Rams made it their third win away from home for the first time in five years. Thereafter we saw a tepid display of poor control and a lack of endeavour which is creeping into the Swans play in recent games.
