A middle aged female workmate of my wife was in Asda Llanelli on Tuesday. She does her weekly shop there and has done so for many years.
She was approached by two men in their late teens or early twenties. They asked her did she believe in Christ. She replied she did not have strong religious beliefs. They asked her did she believe in Allah. She said again she didn't know much about him and was not religious. The men then told her that she had insulted their religion and their god and they were going to come to come to her home and kill her and bomb her house. She ran into the next aisle and asked for help from a staff member. Security was called and the police were phoned. As the men were leaving the police arrived and the men were grabbed and they were carted off into a van. The police took a statement and told her this had happened a number of times. My wife's friend is terrified that the men saw her get into her car and will now be able to identify her.
Will the men be prosecuted under the hate crime laws or let off with a warning? I've not seen anything in the local press.

I'm assuming they were Islamic (as Allah was the last god mentioned?).
It's all really dependent on:-
a) your workmate pressing charges
b) there being sufficient evidence (try to request CCTV is reviewed at ASDA to establish the meeting took place).
c) If this has happened before, there should be a file and more witnesses who can testify.
d) Police/CPS decide to press charges and prosecute.
This is covered fully as a 'hate crime' and threats against her life were also made. At the very least there were two laws broken there - a threat to harm or kill, and the hate crime.
Tell your workmate not to accept anything other than a prosecution, as she is now in fear for her and her family.
Ridiculously, it appears 99% white people are prosecuted for this type of crime. I can remember a few years back, where a violent attack on a white woman was caught clearly on CCTV by 6 muslim girls. The white woman was badly injured and police even caught them in the act of assulting the girl.
However, when it came to court, the defense was the Muslim girls had been drinking, and they were let off. The judges reasoning - because they're not used to it!!!
