There seems to be deliberate moves over the last month to discredit the people who have come forward. It smells because savile shows what happens when the powerful cover up and turn a blind eye. The matters are rightly being pursued by the police, and the CPS will decide on taking these serious allegations to court for a jury to decide - or not. Unfortunately the rumours about who might have been involved make a transparent investigation essential for public confidence. For reference, the CPS decided to prosecute Dave Jones.
The accusers, both imprisoned criminals came forward after the police trawled for potential victims. Both accusers stories were a pack of lies - including claims of abuse when Jones was't in the country.
Make no mistake, decisions to go forward with cases are also political, about headlines and not evidence based as they should be.
I find it amusing Watson railed about police links with NoTW ( when other papers were also involved ) but also that he's silent about the current police actions - ie tipping media off about raids such as that on Cliff Richards house. | |

Tom Watson wanted the police to investigate claims that have been made about child abuse at the Elm Guest House since the eighties. There is a list of people who have been accused of crimes committed there. That list includes the names of Conservative, Liberal and Labour MPs. Leon Brittan was one name mentioned.
Tom Watson did not ask the Police to investigate Leon Brittan. He asked them to investigate the people on that list.
