Do you remember the days 12:28 - Dec 18 with 14257 viewsswancity

When there were just 3000 fans dotted around the Vetch Field?

When Prosser used to wheel up and down the track along the South Stand making funny faces

When away trips to places like Rochdale, Hartlepool, Cambridge and Chesterfield were to be cherished

When you were ankle deep in piss in the North Bank toilets

When you knew at the games you were surrounded by genuine fans of the football club and not people with a passing interest who have jumped onto a bandwagon

Where you could smoke a cigarette if you wanted one

When the pasties were lovely and the tea like hot water

When you could pay cash at a turnstile to go in.

When Robbie James would stride purposefully from the halfway line before unleashing a thunderbolt

When the players were not vastly over paid. Really can any footballer be worth a salary of a cool £1m a month? Or even £1m a year.

Our story has indeed been an incredible one....but there was also something special about supporting our Swans through the bad times as well. The FA cup draw at Oxford brought back some good memories of standing on the terrace behind the goal at Oxford when I think we beat them on pens?

Good old days....

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

Cry me a fooking river. They weren't the "good old days" on the whole they were shite, with fans dreaming of reaching the promised land one day.
Well we are there....if you want to go back to that....Newport county isn't that far.

Part of that is true, there was a camaraderie in those days that a lot of our current fans have never experienced and we will probably never see again.

But, and it's a big but, we all dreamed of being where we are now, we just didn't even consider it a possibility. I certainly miss aspects of watching the Swans when we were shit, but I'd never want to go back there.

Camaraderie ? How do you know the new fans don't have it with PL football and the liberty.

They probably think they do. If you were a fan back in those days, you will understand exactly what I mean. If you weren't, then you won't know what you missed out on.

Overall, I'm agreeing with you, I would never want to go back there, but there won't be many who don't look back at those days with fondness.

They might not of been good for you but they were certainly good for me .....

I far more enjoyed my 'whole football experience' in those days than I do now.

Aye, and me.

And as for dreaming about getting to the Premier League, as someone else said? No, never entered my mind, the draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup was the boy (if we got that far).

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

I remember crowds of less than 1400
I remember being ankle deep in piss and being drenched in the open roofed bogs on the open bank.
I remember going to Oxford City in the Cup where Dai Gwyther scored a hat trick on his 21st Birthday.
yep pasties were great, and some times warm!

This is going to degenerate into a "I'm a bigger fan than you" pissing contest sooner rather than later...

It does not matter if you have been a fan for one day or eighty years, we are all still fans. Some fans devote more time like following them home and away and other fans will have higher priorities in their lives and following the Swans is down on their pecking order.

There is no comparison between the Liberty and Vetch Field for me, today's match day experience wins hands down, the fans who prefer the Vetch are also reminiscing their youth. I used to dream standing on the North Bank to be where we are today, the only negative is the prices increase the higher up the league you go.

Are you just trying to pick an argument? Given your track record it won't take you long to make yourself look stupid.

No one is having a go at you for only getting interested when we were good. I'd much rather us sell out than play in front of 4000 every week. I was agreeing with your main point anyway.

Camaraderie has nothing to do with the football - it's more of a social thing and probably people unable to accept change and growing older.

Serious question - did you ever go to a match at the Vetch? I won't judge you, honest answer. There's chance you did as there was always a bunch of C18 types knocking about so I won't find it completely ridiculous that you did.

The good 'ol days for me were the post Petty days where the swansea public started to get behind the team again, we would often have 5/6/7k in there and on the odd occasion fill the bank.

I feel sorry for the young fans who will never experience the bursting NB, when you'd hear more atmosphere walking up to the ground than actually in the liberty. But once again I wouldn't want to rush back to L1 or 2 thanks. It was more about the days before it all became a bit nice.

So you didn't go then. It's nothing to be ashamed of, we've gained loads of new fans since reaching the "promised land". That's cool.

I don't believe any of us would want to go back to those days. Following our swift fall back down the leagues after those heady first division days we all longed for the chance to be back where we are now. Like all aspects of life things have moved on but there was a "special" feel on the North bank I remember walking through the tunnels onto the bank, being able to pay on match day and stand with your mates.....now lost at the Liberty if you were not able to sign up for a season ticket the year we moved.
The "good old days" always seem better. I quess the issue is those who were there remember a different team approach to the "premier" league divas of today....even in the old Div 1,plus having been there when things were really bad get frustrated by all the "johnny come latleys " both on here and at the ground who are always quick to criticise and moan when as in recent months things have gone a little pear shaped.
SOme great times too which will always be remembered, beating Chesterfield on a Friday night to secure promotion but no one was sure as Pa was palying up ....needed the Bristol result (I think) to go our way,Spurs in the league cup,and of course Leeds on the opening day in Div 1.
The new generation will have several special memories of the Liberty, play off semi final ,the League cup semi V Chelsea.
Maybe some of us have those fond memories because of links to our Dad's/Grnadad's who first took us there and with whom we stood, just like in the future our kids/grandkids will feel about the Liberty BUT at the end of the day the tv money has changed our game and the matchday experience ......and not all for the better but give me PL football every day BUT I'll never forget my roots
