I have a STIHL strimmer and chainsaw, good quality and reliable, serviced every year and they run great.

Stilhl or Husqvana - you really can't go wrong. Obviously they are at the procure end of the market but imo you get what you pay for.

Bought a qualcast chainsaw from Argos, 2 year warranty and relatively cheap hobby saw. When reading the manual to find out which sharpening file to buy, I discovered the saw is actually a husky branded for qualcast. Probably do similar with the strimmers, worth searching some forums

Stihl if you can afford it, every time. It's what the pros use. I now have one of their hedge trimmers and a leaf vacuum...both are great.

My local garage sorts out my petrol strimmer at the beginning of every grass-cutting season. And they do it for free (usually when my car's being MOT'd by them).

They are the canine's testicles compared to the electric strimmers.

I was using mine this morning. The little nylon cutting wires last about 10 seconds before they break and have to be brought forward .from the spool. It's a real pain. Does the job though.

I got mine from Amazon.
I'm not sure if that's the best place/price.

Look at this site (American); http://www.stihlusa.com/products/technology/know-your-stihl-trimmer-line/

Decide what type of line suits your needs best. Once you know the type you need to decide on the thickness.
There's about 6 standard sizes, mine came with a 2.4mm diameter line and I swapped it for a 4mm...cuts much better now and I stop to feed more line out much less...but there are thicker sizes again.
It all depends what you are intending to cut in your garden.

Quick google for UK suppliers of the type and diameter of the line you need should come up with different suppliers and prices.
I reckon you're looking at £10-15 for a new spool.
Good luck!

Thank you for the reply.. A friend has given me some surplus wire, which should last the summer..I did take a look at amazon, and they have got some great deals on the strimmer line, the only snag was you had to make a minimum order of 20 quid. (on other stuff)
