Recruitment Structure 20:19 - Aug 31 with 1130 viewsCroftyjack

If anything this worse transfer window since hitting the premier league has shown me is that we need a very professional approach to our recruitment policy.
It is obvious the case that when we have an interest in a player we take an age to follow it through and if another club comes in we have little chance or don't intend to compete.
This window Allen, Maher, Ziyech, and now Valencia have been nabbed from underneath us...actually though I am unsure that we really went for any of them full heartedly.
Allen we wanted cheap and after the recent defeats Huw made noises over Ziyech and Valencia and can say at least we tried but ultimatelt fail time and time again.
As we will not rather than cant compete with pretty much all the other 19 clubs we have to plough money in a professional structure where we scout all leagues and try to bring in the next talent.
Ajax do this very succesfuly and scout African, Asian and south American leagues along with the smaller European leagues.
The way things are going I do not see us competing any other way without spending like a premier league club.
Any thoughts?

Exactly - when people understand we employ agents and it remains within their immediate memory the better. Gpod points by the OP, but hardly relevant to us as we only recruit by scouting young players for reserve teams.

So you're pleased with our transfer dealings? Baston doesn't quite hack it in Prem or picks up more injuries and we're in serious trouble. A couple of years ago we were competing for players with other mid-table teams likes of Stoke, Everton, West Ham. They're now in a different league and we're being outmanoeuvred by other newly promoted / small clubs recently promoted clubs like Burnley, Bournemouth,Watford, Palace, Subderland and Middlesboro. Our position at rock bottom of net transfer table and priority of shipping out players versus bringing quality in tells its own story of Board / Shareholder priories.

Our recruitment structure left to join Wigan when Roberto left.

Since then we have relied on players identified by the manager or faxed to the clubs email from prospective agents.

Our scouting system consists of that gentleman we headhunted from Middlesbrough, however just like most of the signings we make, he was never wanted by any other clubs and his track record of players identified thus far sums up why.

I can only hope that the two of them turn about to be excellent signings. It's a lot of pressure on Mawson to come into our defence at the moment when he's not played above league one until this season. Borja's record in Spain is obviously very good but again we really need him to hit the ground running. We've shipped out Ayew, Gomis and Shelvey - there's a lot of goals there that I'm not convinced we've adequately replaced.
