Having recently ditched Sky tv, we took up netflix and have been searching through for worthy box sets. We watched the first episode of Dexter and while I quite enjoyed it, my wife wasn't so bothered. So, can anyone tell me, is it worth persevering with. Does it get better or worse, or stay roughly the same? Michael C Hall is a fairly convincing nutter!!
My advice would be to watch up to the end of season 4 and stop there.
I watched it all, seasons 5-8 are so bad I'd give the show an overall rating of 2.5/10
If I'd only seen 1-4, it would get 9.5/10 and would be one of my favourite shows to this day.
I recently started watching Ray Donovan, don't know if it has writers in common with Dexter but feels very alike. If you like Dexter you might well like this too. Again though, I'd stop watching after season 2 for very similar reasons to above. :)
It's a bit of fun. It improves as it's a bit hammy in the beginning. It's only the final episode that is particularly disappointing, as these things often are - don't be put off though.

Oh and mother f*cking Debra could arrest me anytime.
I'll fight you for her, she can arrest the winner!!
OK, thanks everyone. I'll stick with it.
I enjoyed it but it had more of the feel of a mini series to me. Something that would run for 6/7 episodes not for 8 series. Maybe because we found out so much in the first episode, or did we? Have I got a lot to discover still.

Have you seen The Sopranos Catbags?

Thought the season of RD that's just finished was the best yet

I'll get back on it in that case mate, stopped watching about 4 episodes in. Thought it was all getting a bit silly with the story not really going anywhere, but will be happy to be wrong about it.

Keep watching RD - I had the same thought to stop but it definitely improves as it goes on
This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you."
Seasons 1 - 4 are very good. After that I wouldn't bother as it gets sillier and more far fetched.Season 4 is superb with John Lithgow as the Trinity killer.

Rita could have it too.

Watch the show up until the end of season 4, then consider the last episode of the season to be the series finale. Very good show if watched like that and a great ending.
