City of Culture Bid 11:31 - Feb 19 with 1231 views | Private_Partz | St Davids are in for it as the smallest city ever to bid. Guess who else is going for it? Effing Cardiff!! As if they have not got more than enough cultural infrastructure investment already. Anyone know if we are resurrecting our bid of are we going to sit on our hands and let them up the road win the prize? I hope whoever decides this year kicks them into touch. Surely under invested Cities, like Hull and Swansea, are far more deserving causes.

City of Culture Bid on 11:53 - Feb 19 with 1212 views | dickythorpe | Once a city has "won" like Hull did what happens then? If there are plans to hold events, concerts etc does that mean the winning city gets money to build new venues? As much as I like St.Davids it won't cope with thousands of extra visitors and after St. Clears the dual carriageway ends, then entering Haverfordwest, Newgale & Solva it could get very bottle necked and congested.

I think it is an investment thing Dick. Events get held there during the year but apparently it comes with millions of pounds investment which it is reported that Hull has benefitted from. An example of this in Swansea was the Albert Hall. Had we got the gig it was going to opened as a concert venue with 5000 standing places. Smaller for sitting. The results of losing is there for all to see. It joins our other decaying buildings such as the Palace Theatre, The Elysium, The Slip Bridge and Mumbles Pier. I wonder does any city have a comparible amount of such buildings at risk? It would be an obscene waste of money for Cardiff to have it. Last time I saw it reported, the only buildings they have needing a major refurb is a railway station in the suburbs!

City of Culture Bid on 12:12 - Feb 19 with 1181 views | perchrockjack | A joke Apart from a tiny little cathedral ,nothing Hull has a long interesting history and has cultural links Swansea has most certainly and the decision to not have it is a huge blow . This will become evident after Hull has had its year of glory I think Cardiff has had enough. Really.

If we're talking about culture what could be more cultural than having the second most read poet of all time coming from Swansea. No offence to Hull but it's fishing industry doesn't really compare.......

Last time round it was handled badly and hardly anyone knew about the bit to get behind it...was very low key thanks to the organisers and council. In2012 Cardiff got pipped at the post and it went to Liverpool. Here's the Swansea bid. http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/city-poised-to-make-second-bid-for-uk-ci

Heard this one on the weekend whilst up in Dumfries. I am pleasantly surprised. I hope we make a better fist of the bid this time. We need SWEP and the local radio stations behind it as we will get diddly squat from our 'national' media. In fact we can expect negative reporting from them if Cardiff throw their hat in as well. I also hope the Albert Hall will be back up for discussion as well as the Palace Theatre and the Elysium.
