Vokes 19:26 - Mar 4 with 3566 viewsswanjackal

We rightly lambaste those who dive for penalties, but I find what he did today equally as egregious. Glad our winner was a little bit controversial just to rub in, and hopefully crush their spirit.

Not sure how on earth Vokes is both an international (albeit not for his home nation) and a Premier player. Mohammed (peace be upon him) wept.

I'm yet to be convinced that he handled deliberately.

Once given, there is no way you could expect him to hold his hand up (no pun intended).

The ref was totally to blame today.

I agree with this. If he'd claimed a pen and/or celebrated the pen award Joe Jordan style it'd be different, but he looked as confused as anyone.

Doesn't Dyche bang on about how he likes his players to be the most honest in the league?

The problem with that, his silence is as damning as if he celebrated.

The ref showed incompetence, Vokes, with his silence, aided the deception, thus "cheated" a penalty, just as much as any player who dives in the box. So both were melts in this situation.

The ref couldn't identify who handled it. Maybe Vokes thought someone else handled it too.

There's been at least one case where a player has been honest and admitted that a penalty awarded to his team wasn't a penalty & persuaded the ref to change his decision.

Think it was quite a famous case but I'm damned if I can recall the details.

Anyone out there who remembers this?

Itay Shechter scored a beauty against Wigan once. Doesn't stop him being a sh*t player, just like Vokes.

Yeah once.

Vokes has scored a number of goals at PL level ffs.

He's not John Charles no, but there's a lot worse out there.

It was Robbie Fowler, but the dim ref over-ruled him & made him take the penalty anyway!

Yes.

Guess his instinct for goal got the better of him.

The penalty was a travesty but ...
If that had been awarded to us, would be have been lambasting our player for not owning up and thereby denying us a penalty ?
Of course not.
Vokes didn't appeal for it, in fairness to him.

Truthfully, I would have. If it was a 60:40 thing, maybe not, but 100% incorrect I would have.
