A debate has started to make the decision as to whether the Major Trauma Centre for South Wales should be based at Morriston or the Heath.

This will be well worth keeping an eye on because it's a decision that could affect the health of any of us or members of our families. The question about spread of investment by the WAG doesn't just mean new roads and jobs.

No, I will say what I like and when and where I like until somebody with the power to do otherwise does something about it.
You are the one off about political parties, if its ok for you, its ok for me also.

This thread is about a disgraceful decision that puts the lives of people in the SW Wales at risk. It is about criticism of ALL Parties and the politicians that do not stand up for their areas and the people they represent.
I suggested a new thread if you want to debate with me on the merits and demerits of Plaid. Expand it to how I vote and what drives me if that concerns you so much.
All I am saying is I am not debating this any further with you within this thread. I, along with you, have derailed it enough imho.
Of course you are free to carry on if you like but you are on your own. I have choices as well.

This wasn’t assembly/Welsh government decision was it? Neither was the HMRC decision everyone is flagellating about on the other thread.

WAG have ultimate responsibility for this one and could have had some influence over the other had they been so inclined.
This is not just about WAG. It is about politicians sitting on their hands and not fighting their corners.
It is about pressures being put on Health Boards to arrive at a decision in favour of Cardiff if Dai Lloyd is to be believed.

You do not dictate the agenda, get that straight Partz, I'm not interested in you per se, anyone that is a member of Labour but does not always vote for them, but may now not vote Plaid because of me [somebody that has nothing to do with them] and instead you are considering going to vote Lib-Dem, that comes across as barking mad butt.

Good job those that have emailed. I've emailed my AM (Julie James, utterly useless), MP and local counsillors. Genuinely feel sick we live in such a wholly corrupt country and that people vote these in.

Julie James has said absolutely nothing on this it would seem. She did make an appearance on one of the videos promoting the Morriston option though.
I notice that when Carwyn was on an American jaunt she filled in for him on First Ministers questions.

The best 'local' opposition the Welsh Labour lot got regarding the Welsh Assembly came from an external source i.e. ex-SWEP reporter Susan Bailey. In all fairness (the only 'genuine-case' A.M I can recall) Dai Lloyd A.M was also admirable during a particular period many, many years ago. It was when SWEP was running a campaign to save Morriston Hospitals children's neurosurgery dept....... A campaign that was backed by over 100,000 signatures. It was during a time period when a 'local' campaigning delegation was refused entry into the Welsh Assembly building and were left outside to stand in the cold!

I can remember Susan Bailey on Kev Johns Sunday morning phone-in donkey's years back, she predicted a future scenario of which looks to be happening right now! Was she so right folks!

What she said was?.... Once a dept/specialised service relocated from Morriston/Swansea to Cardiff there was every likelihood even more would/could follow. She also raised serious concern that Cardiff bound services could even be shut in Cardiff and moved to Bristol.

The phenomenon of going across the border for specialised medical care is not unique! People travel from Wales to receive specialised services e.g. Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham hepatology etc. Its just so sad that the current (once truly superb) South Wales Evening Post is but a mere shadow of its former campaigning self. Why I express sadness? Because we truly have some utterly sh#te A.M's representing and serving us!

Cheers for that. Very interesting.
The danger of centralisation in Bristol is very real. I believe it is 3 times the size if Cardiff.
It does not take a geniuses to work out that if you have duplications of services a mere 20 miles apart then centralisation in a single service is both cost saving and desirable. Two adult and 2 child Major Trauma Centres with such close proximity will be bound to attract attention when cut backs and cost savings are under consideration. Children's Hospital and Neurosurgery are also duplicated I believe.
Susan Bailey sounds very insightful . I suspect I was very supportive of WAG at the time until the kick in the teeth when the Swansea campaign to house the Assembly was dismissed for Cardiff without their being any real alternative to the Guildhall. I have been suspicious of them ever since.
It is such a shame that we no longer have any media outlets that are supportive of an all Wales agenda.
It is all left to protest groups and dissenting voices nowadays.
Until we wake up and get a party and Politicians who will actually govern for the whole of Wales we are right royally effed.

Yep! The way a group of 'local' individuals whom were turned away from the Welsh Assembly Government doors? It just shows the complete and utter contempt that the WAG had and still has for for us all.

BTW the local delegation that got turned away to stand outside in the cold? It wasn't a trouble making fringe element! A decent bunch of individuals they truly were!

Really pleased to see some genuine debate on this forum relating to Major trauma centre and WAG agendas and local AM's. Don't get me wrong, Im not on an anti Labour agenda, its just that all our local coucillor's, AM's are generally of a Labour persuasion. When decision after decision goes against Swansea and SW. Wales and our so called representatives say nothing, then to me why are they being elected. People need to wake up and smell the coffee, this centralisation Cardiff based agenda which is promoted by the Labour WAG is doing nothing for our children or grandchildren's prospects. Dai Lloyd has to be congratulated in this particular MTU episode, for speaking up, why can't our Labour AM's follow suit.
Enough is enough, we should be electing politicians from Swansea and SW Wales who represent the interests of our region. Labour seem to be incapable of this task, come forward the politicians who can do this, you are desperately needed.

Here is my email below which i sent to Julie James and Mike Hedges. There are 18 AMs whose constituencies are affected by the decision in my estimation. i might very well email the lot........

<<You will no doubt be aware that Health Boards across S Wales have voted for the first MTC in Wales to be sited in Cardiff
This is an area that is already covered by both an Adult and Children MTCs in Bristol 20 miles away.
The decision leaves the whole of SW Wales from Gower westwards without ‘Golden Hour’ cover. Had Morriston Hospital been chosen for the Centre then such cover would have been available right up to the Pembrokeshire coastline.
I am aware of a proposal that Morriston will get a Major Trauma Unit (MTC lite) but surely this will just increase costs and add to the duplication mentioned above with a potential of 3 Adult and 2 Children services within 80 miles of each other. It would also rely on the Air ambulance to fly seriously injured patients to Cardiff.
One of the drivers for this decision was the location of the Neurosurgery Service in Cardiff. A service that was removed from Morriston to Cardiff and, again, is now duplicated with Bristol. This leaves the impression that Morriston is in a state of managed decline with regards to any major services. Surely fears must now exist for the Burns and Plastics Unit.
I was heartened by the campaigns of local politicians prior to the recommendation by the Health Boards. Since the decision however everything seems to have gone quiet. This on a decision that must put a large section of the Welsh population’s lives at risk.
In view of this I would appreciate your views and, if you are in agreement, what you intend doing to try and get this very poorly thought out decision overturned>>

I haven’t received a reply to this message. Perhaps you didn’t receive it. I would be grateful fro your thoughts.

When I wrote that Welsh Labour are no better than the Tories I meant it. They are a disgrace and at the moment Mr Hedges you are part of that disgraceful group running the Assembly (I am aware that you were fuming when you heard about the decision). I’ve written a letter (email) to the Evening Post outlining my thoughts. I’ve suggested that Swansea Council is also of no use whatsoever. They talk about these things now and then, voice their disagreement which achieves precisely nothing and just go back to normal day to day stuff and wait for the next immoral decision by the WAG. I’ve suggested that what they should do is resign en masse from this dreadful so called Labour Party. Them, and you, talking about it is going to have no effect. It’s only by doing something drastic that something may change.

So, I suggest you and all the other West Wales AM’s resign en masse also. What’s the point of you all if you are unable to affect decisions like this latest virtually criminal act ?

That is absolutely shocking.
A 'not my patch Gov' reply.
He is a local politician and he should have views regardless of where the questioner lives. Especially as the jobs involved in a MTC coming to Morriston would benefit his own constitutents.
Odd that he offered an opinion on Twitter after the decision was made but is now closing ranks like buggery.
