I think the secret is to be able to choose to work when you retire. Loads of old boys and girls prop up the 3rd sector (charity) when they retire by volunteering. Go to any National Trust or Cadw property and most of the people helping out will be retirees.

Good to keep the brain active and keep the social links/interactions, but it should be on your terms. Moves to shift the retirement age to 68/70/70+ just because govt and companies have f*cked up pension pots is wrong imo.
