Clearly not. An indictment on the actions of the Thatcher government and to an extent Scargill's actions as head of the NUM. In the end it broke the Yorkshire miners and ended the NUM's power.
The legacy is a country much richer financially but poorer socially.
The 'long read' series is excellent-there is one on what happens when the Queen dies in terms of media and government. Much better than most of the short 'blog' style in the Guardian now. Conn is an excellent journalist. | | | |
