It was cold, calculating, cynical political maneuvering. In May's case, the less the lemmings see of you and actually think about your policies, the more they will swallow the shallow slogans - strong and stable. In Corbyn's case, the less they see of him, the less they will register the fact that he hasn't got a leadership bone in his body.

Yes herefordjack its shocking, its the year 2017, America has them, France has them, we now have them and the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition both don't bother to turn up to make their case to the country and debate the other party leaders. The free press should be telling people not to vote Conservative or Labour on the back of this disgraceful no show, they show no respect for the public so the public should not back them. Instead the press will back one or the other to the hilt [one more than the other but that's a different story]. The public is being manipulated by the powers that be. [Post edited 19 May 2017 12:02]

Yes. If you want a rampant conservative victory which will then sek to outlaw other political parties because of their irrelevance. A non vote for Labour is handing the tories victory. Wake up.

Any evidence behind the utterly bonkers "will then sek to outlaw other political parties because of their irrelevance" line? EDIT: It sums up the state of Labour that their focus seems to be looking for reasons to vote against Tories rather than looking for reasons to vote Labour... [Post edited 19 May 2017 12:36]

Anyone voting Conservative or Labour must be mad. on 14:53 - May 19 with 2155 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | So we do not want our health service going the same way as in the United States. However, some desperately want to see our democratic process head in their direction, such as with live television debates. These debates do absolutely nothing to show how competent a leader will be. It is a battle of who is the quickest thinker on the spot. In reality, a Prime Minister will be surrounded with experts and advisers when making any key decisions, not a micro managed audience and a question master asking pre planned questions. Let's not forget that in the most recent US elections, Hilary Clinton cheated as her team were provided with many of the questions in advance. I'd suspect that sort of cheating would happen here too.

I should be very ashamed? Stop being an idiot. You want to extrapolate f*ckwits like that to generalise all Tories; makes you as bad as him, politicising dumb comments. Given I've a young son with special needs, his comments were disgusting and quite frankly, if he said them to my face he'd struggle to count remaining teeth after getting punched. Repeatedly...

People of Swindon should vote for the candidates representing their views in council elections. Same as everywhere. Local elections tend to be local. Local issues are the key. General elections are more about overall government.

The remark about a one party sate was flippant but practically true as the mandate the Tories will have will be massive, therefore they will be able to run riot pushing through the privatization of the health service and ruining what's left of social care. There are a manifesto full of reason for why to vote Labour. And they're costed. There are no costing in the Tory manifesto but that shows their arrogance and utter contempt they hold the British people in.

Privatisation of NHS. So we keep hearing. Of course the bulk of PFI abuses were under Labour. Labour's costings are as usual in La-La-Land. Yes, hit businesses heavily. No businesses will leave Britain after all... no jobs would possibly be lost. Nationalisation? No possible costs involved there either...

Pfi was the insidious Blair and Brown project. Thankfully the manifesto is back to a socialist programme now. Yes Bluey, you keep convincing yourself that St Teresa is going to reduce the deficit (now up to 1.7 trillion pounds, doubled under a Tory regime after they promised austerity would pay it all off). Only this time she's turned her attention to the Elderly and schoolkids as well as the disabled! What makes me laugh is that people fall for this sh*t time and again. We're all being shafted but at least some of us realize what is happening.

Corbyn did not want to avoid the debate. He challenged the coward May to turn up. I agree with him. What is the point of all the other parties tearing each other a new one when she sits in her glass Palace untouched. Apart from UKIP there is not a mass of difference between the Greens, Lib Dems and Labour. Neither are ther huge differences between Plaid and the SNP other than the obvious 'I' word. All have massive issues with the Tories though. Their nearest ally is UKIP (says it all really). Such debates without May and her scripts in attendance are completely pointless

Deficit - The difference between income revenue and expenditure when you spend more than you earn Debt - Total amount of money owed through accumulation of a negative balance of payments Only by reducing the deficit and turning it into a surplus can you begin to bring down the overall debt.
