Chris Grayling has announced that there will be no electrification beyond Cardiff. This clearly puts West Wales at a serious disadvantage in terms of ongoing investment. Is this payback for not 'Going Blue' at the General Election?

Sure is why invest money in a Labour stronghold. Let the WA fund it.
Indeed why shouldn't the WAG fund it ? ... oh wait a minute there will be no benefit to the capital will there & it may impact construction funding for project Cardiff

It's Network Rail investment. Network Rail covers the UK hence they pay for infrastructure improvements whether that be in Wales or anywhere.
I have massive disrespect for the WAG but why should we pay out of the Welsh budget for something that is a 'UK' investment.

Nope one of the first things in Wales Network Rail wanted to do as it doesn't make one penny, but the assembly wanted it kept open so they/we have to pay for it, that train service is no good to anyone its about one train one way about every 2/3hrs

Wow, just wow. They should he doing a damn site more than subsidising it. They should be investing or promoting a real north south Wales rail link. Not to mention a motorway. Talk about feeding off crumbs.......

Does this mean delays or changing trains at Cardiff when travelling from London to Swansea? Dont imagine its as easy as just flicking a switch in 2 seconds?

Actually, they have promised that people arriving at Swansea will have the advantage of arriving before they set out from London etc.
With the new technology on these trains, once they reach the end of the electrification, and 88mph is hit, the trains flux capacitor does the rest.

You're talking about The Heart of Wales Line between Swansea and Shrewsbury. It could be better, like most everything else, but it's an absolute joy to ride in the Summer months and an essential rural transport link all-year-round.
Beautiful!

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood tweeted: "Wales gets 1% of rail investment despite making up 6% of the UK network. And now this."
Come on Carwyn mun, kick off big time !!
Imagine what Carwyn would do for Cardiff with 6% of the HS2 budget. It would be an exciting prospect if such funds were in the hands of an Assembley that actually gave a sh!t about the rest of Wales.

When the "Welsh Goverment" doesn't give a shit about anything further West or North than Cardiff then why would anyone expect the one in Westminster to do otherwise?
The power to change that lies in your hands. If every MP or AM in Wales was in genuine fear of losing their slot at the trough come the next election then things would change.
