Well, most everyone says he was all wrong for us and didn't fit in, yet he was our leading scorer (12 goals) and managed to play multiple positions, including striker. He even earned a PL Player of the Month award, which only one other Swans player has done (Siggy in March 2012).
Plus he did a lot more than score goals directly. His constant hustle earned us at least two penalties, and led to several other goals.
So either he was a great player or he benefited from a good system, one or the other. [Post edited 20 Jul 2017 21:06]

You're right though. The idea that Ayew was responsible for our poor form that season was nonsense then, and even more so now. There's only one reason we were shite that season and it's currently in charge of Middlesbrough.

An excellent analysis but it doesn't change the fact that we we relatively poor all around, due to a rookie manager attempting to reinvent the wheel. We were horrible to watch and it's continued to this day because we had unsuitable players for the way we play and Ayew was one of them. Heartbreaking. |  |

Taking him back is a pie dream. He didn't like the City, he avoided all the community obligations and told a number of people that he'd made a huge mistake when he'd only been here a few weeks. However, in fairness to him, his attitude on the pitch was always committed and professional a he did more than most to ensure we stayed up last year! He tried his best for the team till the end, and I for one didn't begrudge him the chance to earn big money at West Ham and give us a windfall into the bargain. He was totally unsuited to us and he knew it- not his fault but GM's and the Director of Football. The Swansea Way? They did more than anything to destroy what they had previously been selling to anyone prepared to listen to them! |  |

A team full of Ayews would be a disaster, but having one mercenary who contributes during the season and then we offload at a huge profit isn't so bad.

He didn't really fit the formation under Monk. Looked better under the more tactically astute Guidolin but still drifted too much. It wouldn't surprise me if Clement was able to accommodate him.

I do not intend to denigrate any posters or posts, but in all sports, there are players who can score, but who drag down the rest of the team to do it.
