Brexit result not legally binding - Has the PM committed a criminal act? 19:03 - Aug 10 with 9715 viewsGowerjack

Interesting piece here from Criminal Law and Justice weekly.

In essence the referendum was only ever advisory invoking article 50 may have been illegal and May and her team are fully aware of this.

How stupid would you have to be to put goalposts up the wrong way round.

Mind you, Aberdare voted leave.

Brexit will become the disaster that anyone with half a brain cell could have anticipated.

If you are aligned to Boris, Redwood, Gove, Farage, Davis, et al on any argument then you are probably on the wrong side of the argument.

If nothing else peace in Europe has been a pretty good outcome.

'The past has stolen the future'. Mindless economic self harm - and the poorest areas - like Wales - will suffer the most.

God bless the nice European people who gave us money because London had made Wales so poor.

The peace in Europe has nothing to do with the EU. The peace has been preserved by NATO.

Russia is in Europe, well parts of it, Ukraine also in Europe, NATO couldn't prevent conflict there.

Ukraine are not in Nato ther fore Nato cannot interfere with a sovereign state unlike the Russians.

Not relevant to the legal aspect, but two interesting surveys in the papers today.

The peace in Europe has nothing to do with the EU. The peace has been preserved by NATO.

NATO is a 'defence' co-operation, it's primary role is to guard against threats against the West the former Soviet Union and now Russia. This isn't some Treaty to help provide peace within friendly boundaries.

The EU is a political and economic union. The Treaty of Rome signed in 1957 was instrumental in bringing about lasting peace between foes.

It is much harder to have War between Countries that have a mutual interest in peace. To retrench to National borders is obviously going to create the conditions for potential problems in the longer term, that's just basic common sense.

Just like the EU this isn't a binary choice, the EU has been a force for peace and stability. Just as Nato, the UN etc have helped to prevent threats as well.

I think we've become extremely complacent, there were reasons why the EU was founded and there were reasons why we joined. We joined because we were the sick man of Europe and had in recent decades lost the Empire, we needed Europe.

Firstly, NATO is a political and military alliance.

Secondly, do you think two NATO countries would ever attack each other?

Thirdly, we didn't join the EU. We joined the EEC.

There is a,definite possibility 2 nato nations could go to war with each other.

The UK did join the EU, our sovereign parliament signed up to the Maastricht treaty. Parliament is sovereign in the UK, and has been for quite a while. Despite some people feeling it isn't, contrary to the facts as stated in the government's own white paper and recent court cases.

As I said, it's not an either or to me they're both beneficial to peace.

Why do have no problem in the NATO alliance, which is giving away sovereignty then?

Greece v Turkey. Not going to happen while they're both in NATO. Ever.

If it did, not sure whether Article 5 comes into play.

Re EU. We joined the EEC. It became the EU. We didn't have to apply to join the EU.

Quite simply - in the 70's the UK joined 8 other nations and that was what we agreed to.
If the likes of fcking Rumania, Greece, and the other 17 or so countries who nobody has heard of until 1998 were involved we wouldn't even have considered it.
That's how it is, nothing more and nothing less.

Ok what do you say to the points I made regarding the 'influence' of GB in bringing in these Countries into the block. This was not a Franco German plot.

I think the term 'winging it' has never been more appropriate.

But the brexit masses will not turn until it's too late then they'll either blame the EU, immigrants or more than likely 'betrayal' not their own choices.
