Closed down and our tempo was pedestrian again.. Tammy isolated for most of the match and we lost count how many times we lost possession in key areas.
Don't want single anybody out here but one individual really needs to look at himself and justify why he is on the pitch.

Bad performance today bar a few, but I honestly can't remember the last time we went to Soton and I didn't think 'we should have been battered there', certainly was the case last year. Even that year we won with a Jonjo goal we got battered. |

The defence wasn't bad at defending- it was all the rest that was problematic. On the break we were ponderous and there was no creativity in midfield whatsoever. Caroll was not to be seen though his set pieces were good. Very lucky to come back with a point but a point it was. |

Anyone watching Match of the Day would have thought it was a fairly even game, it just goes to show how cutting & pasting video clips changes the perspective.
No body has bothered to mention our 2 chances yet, Tammy nearly got the first goal but was bundled off the perfect header, just like lots of our players were bundled off the ball.
As for those diving Soton players, well there is no sportsmanship in sport today and they were the epitome of a diving side, the slightest touch and they were on the floor crying foul.
They tried to change the ref's mind on any decision that didn't go their way and they call it sport. | | | |

We were poor in midfield, we were poor in attack. As a result we were forced to defend far more than we should have. This we did very well putting bodies in the way when they had shots and forcing them into areas where shooting was not likely to cause problems. We kept our shape.
Oddly enough this was pretty standard fare at Southampton. I was there for a very similar 0 - 0 a couple of years back.
As regards chances they could have had 3. The tap wide, the header and the free kick. We could have had 2 from Tammy with his header and brilliant turn.
It was a poor performance by us and we will be in trouble if we serve up similar fare against Man Utd. It was not poor in all departments though. Our overworked defence did well imho.
Btw. The worst case scenario is getting tw@tted. Not coming away with a point [Post edited 13 Aug 2017 9:25]

we looked much better when we switched formation. the full backs were isolated in the first half which is when saints had there best chances. we could have played for hours and southampton wouldnt of found their way through. I was sat in the hospitality seats (amazing view btw) I was with my friend who is a saints fan and he was saying none of their players wanted to score. We set up for the draw not doubt. its a good result as previously mentioned about being hammered when we go there. | | | |

The most worrying thing wasn't we mugged Southampton but that a team who clearly aren't much cop either and will be in the shake up for relegation because they are poor didn't at least take one of their chances.
At some point, luck runs out and this might just be the season ours does. We looked lacking in much quality all over the park and as much as it hurt Tommo's summary of us was spot on. We passed the ball sideways through the back four and keeper and that seemed to be the only plan we had. keep the ball at the back and frustrate the opposition for 90 minutes and hope they don't score because we had no plan B.
God help us when we come up against a decent striker or team we will get absolutely undone. That hurts to admit that we've just wasted a summer where we've not even tread water but gone backwards. Well done Jenkins and the mericans. |  | | |

Your second paragraph sums up the game perfectly, and I said in a earlier post, perform like that next week and we'll cop a hiding, this Gylfi saga needs sorting pronto, because without fresh blood, this is going to be a long hard season |  |

And if it hadn't hit his hand it would have hit his face anyway, either way it wasn't going in so no penalty. Ref must have seen it the same way. |  | | |
