Squad Depletion 18:01 - Aug 14 with 1263 viewsCroftyjack

As much as I am for cutting the deadwood it should not impact the quality of the team.subs bench:
Like them/rate them or not these are the outgoings:
Amat (3rd or 4th choice better then VHD)
Tabanou (maybe PC could have worked with)
Barrow( at least a pacey option coming off the bench)
Emnes( looking at Saturdays bench, he has more attacking threat of any of them)
Baston(£15m striker...2nd season with a pre-season who knows..better than Ollie)
Gomis(like him or not he is a quality finisher and better than Ollie)
Cork(Not fantastic but solid PL player)
Siggi( Soon to depart???)

I'm not going to give my personal view on them but I know they would have enhanced the bench at least.

I agree with your thoughts .....

Personally though I have no issue with getting rid of any the list I would of added Bartley & Dyer to the list as well.

What is not acceptable is to sell the non PL standard players & not replace them. Our match day squad is pathetic, it seems the majority will be happy with 2 or 3 signings.

With the deadwood that's been cut surely our wage bill has been reduced & with PC's contacts we should be looking at a couple of decent loan signings to add to the 2 or 3 in comings.

Like I said I have no issues removing players that offer us little these days...my observation is that they actually add more than some that are still here...and as you say my initial thought was clear then add better!!!

A lot of deadwood in there, no complaints from me overall.

Damn if they do, damned if they don't.

Can't say there's many there I'm sad to see go

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
Poll: Happy to see Martin go

Deadwood they are but funny how most would make our bench look much better than of late is the issue.

Our worst and weakest squad since the one in our inaugural season in the Prem.

We should be entering our 7th season with a squad to be proud of. The fact it is paper thin speaks volumes.

That's some serious cost reduction. Highlights our woeful transfer policy in last couple of years. Transfers are normally hit and miss, but I can't think of any other PL club that's cut so many players in one window. 19 players - plus likelihood of Montero, McBurnie and and a couple of others to be shipped out, that's a hell of a cull. I don't have a problem with shipoinh players out - most way below PL quaility, but naive to expect our Board / PC would reinvest in squad.

So far we've got circa £70m in transfer income, spent £25m or so on Mesa/Clucas, with maybe £20m or so on Bony and Arias. So a profit of circa £25m on transfers, wage savings of at least £20m, plus the extra £20m+ in sky money. That's one hell of a windfall / savings of £65m or so. How much will be reinvested in squad versus Yankee Doodle profits? With 5 days to go I'm remain sceptical that Yanks have targeted this as year of 'super profits' before they exit / sell club.
