TRANSFER WINDOW TO CHANGE?
Premier League clubs will discuss the proposed introduction of a new summer transfer window that closes before the opening game of next season.
It is understood talks will take place between every club next month about whether to change the deadline of the current window, which closes nearly three weeks after the first game of the season.
Sky Sports News has been told by sources that the "majority" of top-flight clubs currently favour an earlier closure, and the issue could be voted on during their next shareholders' meeting in September.
At least 14 of the Premier League's 20 clubs must agree for a new rule to be introduced.
One consideration is whether Premier League clubs will be weaker if the summer window closes in the middle of August.
Clubs from other European leagues, including Spain and Italy, would still be allowed to sign players from England in line with their own domestic deadlines.

I'd scrap it altogether if i could. But this is an improvement.

About bloody time, although it looks like there's still a chance of losing some players (probably only a few as doesn't happen too often) to European teams after the Premiership has started. So, why can't UEFA get the whole of Europe in line?

I think the financial power of the EPL is currently such that the only real disruption from abroad would be from the major clubs.

Anything else is likely to be welcomed.

If our financial year finishes on July 31st (and this impacts on our buying position) does this mean our window would only be 10 days?

It might as well be.

We'll just have to change our financial year again if necessary. Who the hell decided it would be a good idea to have it halfway through the window in the first place? Do other clubs do it? It makes no sense.

It does if you want agility to decide which year a player sale is registered against... particularly if you were planning some sort of sale and wanted to optimise the books

It was changed to match up with the Sky money.

And as has been seen, the story re Siggy and the financial year end having an influence was not true in that particular case.

However, it is a relevant point. The 'big clubs' tend to have a year end of 30 June or 31 May (which used be our year end). Delaying the payment of corporation tax by one year by selling a player a few days later makes sense, but if the transfer window shut a few days after our year end, it will be even more difficult than we seem to find it now, unless we get our act together.

I would think so, 9 days thinking time and then a day to not have enough time to do anything.
