Can anyone explain to me why people are interested in buying old tat, and filling their homes with bric-a-brac.
And why they get so exited in buying say a pewter mug with no handle for example, bizarre.

Lot of money in Antiques.
It's why you don't find them in "deprived " areas

Maybe, however,I'm talking about some people, who buy this crap.
I'm not talking about a one off statement piece, but the tat,I hate tat,and clutter.
Upcycling, blah blah yeah great, but why oh why fill your house full of junk.

Love an old collectable me.

I have been trying to find an early 1900's presentation coin to commemorate the coronation of King George V given out by the Mayor of Swansea. Preferably with a roughly drilled hole at the top.

So far no luck.

Bargain Hunt were filming down the Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthen a couple of months ago, my missus friend and her sister took part, great fun apparently, but here's the thing..... they dont give the contestants 1 hour to find three items as they claim.... they have 3 hours!!! Fix or what 😮

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

Yep...you can't beat the old ones. Little bit of lubrication on the hinge...I said 'hinge', FFS...and they're as good as the young ones.

Sorry, OC

Having just finished working in an auction house. What would you like to know about the murky world of antiques and general auctions?

Including some of the secrets of the plethora of antique shows on the telly?

Well there was just someone on Flog It with a little monkey ornament they bought for £2 at boot sale and it sold for over £4K at the auction.

A cousin of mine gave up the day job and makes a living buying at car boot sales, jumble sales etc. and selling online. Does very well for himself, though he has got a trained eye and does a fair bit of research. Loves it when you buy something for £2 and sell it on Ebay for £350. Not so bizarre then jack2jack.

That's great, but why do folk want to fill their houses with 'ol tat.
My parents were lovers of antiques just never got the point, just personal choice i guess.Maybe it put me off.

I suspect much of that haggling is for entertainment purposes.

I love haggling and tried at several antique and curio shops here . Ive had little success at hard negotiating some really good prices.

Best to waste the Proprietor s time then walk away from the shop ;he might call you back.

Everything is mass produced these days for the most part - its nice to find something unique with a bit of history and character.

Obviously its not for everyone - get down IKEA!
