Lacking match fitness, confidence and needs to look up where he his passing. And get to know the team and how they make their runs etc.

Still has snippets of quality about him.

Once taken out of the context of the game there appeared to be quite a few positive aspects to his play. obviously rusty and needs to sharpen up both speed and accuracy...but he can definitely play.

If anyone bothers to watch that you'll see straight away he was better than most thought straight after the game.

It's just a case of too much expectation from us and on one so young.

As you'll see though, he was hugely involved in the game and so, so many touches especially in the first half. He's a tad off the pace but he's brand new here and will grow into this season.

His twists and turns and sudden bursts of speed are sublime. He just needs to keep doing the simple things right.

I've no idea what you are watching. I watched it all and it was as bad as I remember.

His twists and turns were largely pointless and usually lead to him losing the ball. The only thing he did successfully were simple passes-and some of those he got wrong. Anything in the final third was abysmal.

There may be a fantastic player in there but that was a truly atrocious display yesterday.

It's not really his fault though. Obviously he's young and inexperienced and he shouldn't have been dropped in to the first team like that.

Pretty much my thoughts too, having watched it back. Yes, he lost the ball a lot but clearly he was off the pace. I was surprised how many touches he had. Some of his touches were really nice. He'll be fine I think.

What a ridiculous post !
The guy has been with us 3 days,Bayern Munich paid £27 million for him.
Trust me,this boy will come good for us ,may take him 3-4 games but he
will produce, yes some passes went astray but his ball control and football
brain was on another level to our players.
Who do we think we are !

I know he's only been with us 3 days-that's why I said it wasn't his fault and he shouldn't have started.

I also know what he's capable of, why Bayern paid £27m for him and not for a minute suggesting he won't come good. But he was truly awful yesterday.

I wasn't at the game yesterday but I read your verdict Tom and was thinking "surely not".
The video shows that whilst some of his passing was off radar he seemed to be very involved in the game.
I'm amazed that you didn't appreciate his running with the ball. Yes OK at times he did run into trouble but it was so refreshing to see. It will take him a month to acclimatize so cut him some slack. I predict he'll start having a big influence on our games in the next few matches

Money is no guarantee of quality or his suitability for us, but that aside I agree that he needs a break. Everything was going through him first half; hecsaw loads of the ball. And it was obvious that there was very little on most of the time. This match wasn't about how good or bad Sanches was, it was about how badly the whole team played. Sanches was no worse than most of the others. He'll be fine. But as I said yesterday, we're rediculously one dimensional- far too many similar players with few options for width, pace and creativity in the final third.

The usual miserable attempt at a football post from you.

Watch the game back and you'll see we didn't play badly at all. We just came up against a well organised, competitive outfit who did a job on us.

This was our first game after the windows, the first with a new dimension (Sanches) the first home game for Clucas and the first back to a diamond since the first 20 minutes at Southampton.

Similar players?

Clucas 6 foot 2 and played out of position on Sunday for me. Has the height for aerial battles and can go box to box. Also good feet, technically sound.

Carroll 5 foot 8 and a ball player, great range of passing, quick tempo, moves it around well, technically sound, good feet.

Sanches, completely different to what we've got or probably ever had. The twists and turns and body dummies, quick bursts of pace, energy, drive, skill... Take the school boy mistakes out of that performance and we'd all be drooling over it.

Fer, big, strong, an eye for a pass, can go past a man, good feet, skill, decent in the air, different to the rest..

Tammy and Ayew. Again nothing similar in those two to the rest of the team. Ayew brings that x factor, unpredictability, energy and Tammy pace, strength, movement, fox in the box, right place right time, different.

This is not the time for shit, boring posts or for our fans to become the Premier league Billy big bollox supporters they mostly are.

It's time for a bit of patience and let an exciting squad of players bed in a bit.

Yes individually different but as a team we were predictable in our play. Too slow, too ponderous and without the physical speed and speed of thought needed in this League. I thought we looked a poor side. We aren't though and when Bony and Sanches settle in we will improve no doubt. I can see us around 11-13 th this season.

I thought that at the time. I saw a different game watching it back.

We have to give credit to Newcastle.

We have to understand our expectations were too high considering the aspects in my earlier post just now.

Time and patience. There's better in each and every one of those players when they get to know each other and become more confident on the ball.

Maybe what we should be addressing is basically allowing ourselves to be mugged .

Just how many times do we see free headers killing us.

We need to finish chances at this level.

We didn't and paid the price

Newcastle were playing with a "weak" injury affected team and Rafa has publically stated their squad is weak.

we ve longer a dead ball specialist and he s not been replaced nor our play amended .

We re shambolic right now.

I think it shows how isolated he was. He had no support other than naughton.

Some of the passes he gave away purely because there was nothing else on.

Also seemed to be sold short with a few of the passes he recieved.

Agreed mate especially about expectations being too high

We are still a small club at this level. One of 8 IMO who have a number one priority which is to avoid relegation.

We're far from shambolic, that's just not true.

We're a team in transition with a fresh squad, new faces, young talent and energy. We have a manager that literally pulled off a miracle last season who some of our jumped up Premier league fans are questioning - scandalous.

And owners who are getting things right off the pitch. Walking around the stadium before the match Sunday I have to say I was impressed. The Jacks zone, the huge TV screen showing the early game, after the stalls selling the Swans gear, even a stadium map. This is a club that finally is getting the little things right.

The biggest threat we have right now is from the inside, our so called fans who are only out to criticise everything the Americans do. Look out for posts from randoms like Valerie and a few others. Never balanced and always on the attack.

The match day experience is a bloody good one. The team will compete in the best league in the world and we'll do fine. Stop and think about that and be grateful for what you have and what we can still achieve. It's pretty pathetic to just look to pick holes when there's so much to look forward to.

Having watched that clip back and outside the context of the game I feel the criticism of Sanches has been over-egged.

Many of the "possession losses" were not that at all, but were his failed attempts to get out of tight spot with no other option that subsequently went for a throw-in; attempts to nip in and steal the ball from an opponent that didn't succeed; and the 2-3 times he got pole-axed and won a free-kick.

The worst mistake was on the counter when he got the ball stuck under his feet and failed to release Ayew down the right.

He needs to be banned from free-kicks too.

Overall, I saw plenty of positives and I think with time he will get better.

This video puts in to perspective the claims of how many times he lost the ball, nothing about just how many times he played the ball successfully, which is exactly what the Squawka stats said.
By comparision Routledge loses the ball far more often and doesn't make any where near that number of passes, interception, tackles and breaking up attacking play.
I thought considering his age and freshness to everything Swans & Prem he did really well.
I am sure he will get a lot better.

Sanches does bring something completely different to the team. We are set up quite defensively, at least half the teams who come to the Liberty will also play defensively, we need a bit of X factor to unlock tight defences, particularly if we aren't committing men forward. Sanches has bags of that.

There were some very disappointing aspects of his debut. Some of the passes were borderline embarrassing (some were due to lack of options but some were just bad) and he ran out of gas way too quickly for a 20 year old that has at least had some of a pre season with Bayern. Those things can be ironed out pretty quickly with game time and coaching though. You can coach and train Sanches to be able to do the basics. You can't teach an average player some of the things he can do.

We talk about him needing more confidence and that's definitely true. However, conversely there was evidence of over confidence in one or two plays, or at least an air of being too casual.

Like I've said on the other thread I think he feels he needs to justify why Munich paid so much for him, that he needs to show the world he's a little better than your average player. Which totally isn't the case, he needs to start again, respect the pro 's around him and competing against him and begin to get the basics right. The rest will all just follow.

His reputation will not redeemed in one game, he needs to find steady consistency.

I'm not concerned about a lack of confidence, I just didn't see that at all. What I did see was arrogance, which players like that need, but maybe spilled over to complacency and eventually frustration when he started to tire.

I love a player who harries down opponents and wins balls he has no right to win, but he needs to pick his battles until he can last 90 minutes. I also thought he was playing with a leash on, several times in the first half he beat his man easily, looked like he was going to drive forward and then played a simple sideways pass. I'd like to see him given licence to run at defenders and open the game up a bit more.

Overall, I was fairly happy with his debut, though I can understand those who slated him.

Fair comment 247.

He s certainly one to get bums off seats ( well some).

It was pretty unfair really to shove him straight in but it looked like he wanted to get stuck in.

Nice kick to the Niagaras too which he got away with Scot free. He s gonna have to watch that
