Load of shite in my opinion.

Although i am speaking as someone who does not have a gambling addiction, maybe those that do think differently, but i do not look at a betting company shirt sponsor and think, i'll go put a bet on now, similarly i never used to look at a racing car that was sponsored by a tobacco firm and think, i'll go have a ciggy now.

I do enjoy a small bet on the football every now and again.

Ban alcohol is what they need to do.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Exactly.
I took my four year old grandson to the Man United game a few weeks ago and we haven’t been able to keep him out of the bookies since he saw our shirts.
Utter nonsense.

Don't forget it was Blairite hack Tessa Jowell as Minister of Culture (ffs!) who drove the expansion of gambling and it's cultural mainstreaming. She supported the opening of Aspers in Swansea and countless others and at least there are now some more socially responsible elements calling for stricter regulation thankfully. Right, I'm off to the bookies....

Totally disagree with the OP.

I think it's wonderful to see 8 year old kids about the place being walking adverts for betting companies.
It's what made Britain great.

not too sure about banning ads on football shirts.

Something needs to be done about fixed odds betting terminals in bookies though. You can o your b****ks on those in minutes. Spoke to Carolyn Harris about them once and she said you wouldn't believe the number of people who have developed serious gambling addictions because of them.

Leave the betting shops alone.

If a bunch of weak willed half witted fools are too pitiful to control themselves in gambling sensibility and within their means, then why should that impinge on the opportunity of the rest of us to be able to continue to pay some of our household bills through our ability and pleasure in outwitting the bookies on a regular, continuing annual basis?

If you don't wish to visit a betting shop then no one is forcing anyone to do so.

No argument there.

However, you can get pissed very cheaply at home if you want to and extending drinking hours in pubs and clubs hasn't made any real difference.

true but after getting pissed at home they then go out and get further smashed wheras if the clubs closed as they did around 2am it would help.

After the change,Phil, I can well remember taking the lads out in the Land Rover ,fully kitted up, to wade into these cretins before we d have our scoff ,then we d relax for a n hour ,play some snooker then trawl the streets for car thieves and prostitutes getting smacked by punters.

After the law changed ,we could be smacking heads until going home time which was 7am

I dunno, pity we didn't live nearer, we could be chums and go out on foursomes and have holidays together . I could show you a few party tricks

And he wonders why lots of people have none or little respect for them. It's old bill like him that give them a bad name. It's a shame because there are plenty of good coppers out there.

A few years back I used to flog two way radios to UK Police Forces; Perch you have probs used Cleartone radios many times.

The head of the South Wales Police Tetra project used to refer to their riot vans ( those with grilles that drop to protect the windscreen) as " Smash 'em in the face vans".

Terribly nice bloke he was though.

Currently I am as left wing as they come but I don't agree with this. People should have freedom to choose but we should be advising them of the risks. The same as fags, drugs, fatty foods etc.
Whatever happened to public information films? We need to get Tufty on the mini roundabout case asap.
If Labour do get in I will be very pleased but I am sure there will be an eventual falling out as they go ott enforcing the nanny state.

Exactly.

If people are so inclined they can make five gallons of 20% proof alcohol in less than a week for a total outlay of less than a tenner. Clubs being open a couple of hours longer is nothing compared to that.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
