Recommendations Please 16:59 - Oct 7 with 5956 views | Flashberryjack | Went to trim the lawn edges yesterday with my petrol strimmer, after pulling the cord for half an hour the b*stard thing wouldn't start, had to go back in the house completely out of puff. Anyway I thought "f*ck it" I'm gonna get an electric strimmer, was thinking of getting a battery operated one rather than off the mains. Any sensible advise would be very much appreciated.

GTech are meant to be ok. Bit too 'look at me' and pay for the fancy tech for my taste like Dyson, which are a bit shit compared to Henrys and twice as expensive. I have a black and decker that has been fine for two years. Much easier than fannying around with a cable or petrol. About 100 notes, so not that cheap, but a fair bit cheaper than a Stihl (which I'm told is the strimmer of choice). Pay a bit more to get the taller model so that you are not bending.

It always collapses when I am using using it. The strimmer wire is crap as well and you need a degree in engineering just to fit a new reel. Get a single auto line feed with a head you can swivel for lawn edging. This type are difficult to find now but worth the hunt. Qualcast are probably one of the best. Believe me the Bosch one is truly awful. Some reports say there are H and S issues with them as well.

I have a Stihl Strimmer / Brushcutter. It's true what they say - you get what you pay for! No problem starting it. Cheaper ones are false economy in the long run. If you can afford one, get one.

Bang on! I bought a rechargeable clip-on bladed (not line/wire fed cutting) Bosch. I only had to do one edge of a garden and it's power was lost to an extent where it was next to useless. That was after hours of charging, I thought I'd bought a dud..... I bought a strimmer with a lead. I was unlucky regarding the electric lead length with my strimmer, the one I wanted was with 12m cable, it was out of stock and I had to buy a 10m cable version and have to use an extension lead myself. An extra six and a half feet reach would have been preferable i.e. no need for an extension.
