Yes quite. But you're posting to the wrong person. I was merely pointing out that you do not have to prove that you're not what someone has labelled you in any libel case, not if there were grounds for libel. [Post edited 11 Oct 2017 16:43]

Lily Allen on 00:41 - Oct 11 by Highjack | Yes essentially, and since I have no convictions for "kiddy fiddling" it would be an open and shut case. Lily, despite her inate vacuousness has only described Boris as a renowned eccentric. I'm certain she would have had advice before posting that one. |
I’m no barrack room lawyer (we’ve got a few of those here) but my understanding is that if I called you a monkey and you sued me for libel or slander it would be for me to prove that you’re a monkey in court, the onus wouldn’t be in you to prove that you’re not.

Lily Allen on 16:34 - Oct 11 with 1774 views | westwalesed | Yes she should be able to say what she wants, as long as she's willing to risk being sued for libel.

It's the difference between UK and US libel law. Under both U.K. and US law Lily Allen is a silly attention seeking prat.

So in UK libel law if I called you a corrupt harpie (not that I ever would) and you sued me it would by up to me to prove in court that you are indeed a corrupt harpie? In US law it would be for you to prove that you’re not a corrupt harpie. Correct?

Lily Allen on 20:32 - Oct 11 with 1610 views | monmouth | Scott Turow's novel 'Identical' is based on it too. Surprised me I must say, but the Yanks have got it right. If you sue it is up to you to prove you are not what has been alleged.

If that's the law in America, then sorry that's just wrong, surely the onus of proof should be on the accuser not the accused.
