It's Mrs. Jack's 40th next year. She wants to visit Palma and I am keen to get the trip sorted. Would be looking to visit sometime between the end of March - beginning of May.
Check out Hotels on Trip Advisor, usually works for me, but you need to decide what Board you require, if the Hotel is just gonna be a base then Bed & Breakfast or Self Catering, if you just intend lounging around pool and going on the odd stroll then maybe the other options like HB, FB or All Inclusive. We went to Alcudia this year superb hotel great food, but went HB and spent a fortune, so intend looking for top standard All inclusive for next yr, we like to go Adults Only, lovely and quiet no rug-rats running around screaming and shouting, pity they don't do Adults only flights as well
Me and the missus went there last October for our birthdays had a really cheap flights with Ryanair it's only a very short drive from the airport to the centre of Palma if you hirng out a car but to be honest there's not that much to do there in the city centre
obviously the big Cathedral is a massive draw and well worth a visit but apart from that just the usual streets with shops but could a nice shopping centre
if you're thinking of staying in a hotel there be prepared to dig deep, the prices I thought were extortionate to stay in Palma city centre I mean you're talking hundreds of pounds for the hotel for the night you may be lucky and find something cheaper I was bored there after the few hours and then we decided to drive around the coast approximately 5 miles to Palma Nova the large resort much much cheaper there and in my opinion much more to do so that's a good base if you want to visit Palma from.

What's Palma Novo like as a resort itself LB? often thought of holidaying there, but been put off because of its closeness to Palma.

Pama Nova is jumping Max. Like Benidorm with a younger more energetic element. Palma itself is quite nice actually, me being a person who prefers cities to beaches.

Ibiza is nice, Portinax particularly if its as it was. The police in Ibiza have done their best to clean up the whole island, quite successfully too. Only thing is, in Ibiza they launder the bedding in salt water, the salt retaining some water, so you think you're getting into a damp bed. Italy and Greek Islands for me every time, Portugals Algarve is nice too, but avoid Playa de Roche, leave that for the youngsters. When I was there the bouncers had Rottweilers with them on the door.

Gang of us off to Portugal for 4 days next September, wouldn't mind trying Portugal good Bass Fishing there to apparently probably the north west end though.

As I said it was October so the weather is nice this time of year and of course,it's the end of the party season and much more quieter and peaceful. Still warm enough for a dip in the sea too.
If you like your beer and grub, many nice places to chose from..it's also joined onto Magaluf another big town...so lots to see and do.
Avoid the summer months and you'll find it ok.

Make sure you try the real Portugese grub. Good stuff.

Ibiza would be my choice destination, out there in March this year for a couple of days...airfare cost £47 each return with EasyJet ,Bristol.
Playa de Roche I thought was nice because it's full of Brit families having a great time in the evenings with hotel entertainment. I've also stayed in more upper class hotels there like The Jupiter , lovely view overlooking the police station on the beach, and that casino on the Main Street but found these places dull and full of Germans.

Me and the wife been to Palma a couple of times. We stayed on both occasions at the "TRYP Bellver Hotel" (half board) really nice Hotel overlooking the Marina and within easy walking distance to the Cathedral.
Step out side and you can catch a bus into Palma Nova or Shagaluf.
The last time we were there the Aircraft carrier " US Theadore Roosvelt" was at anchor in the harbour, spent ages on my balcony looking at all the goings on with my binocs, and met a few of the pilots when we went out for a meal.
Nice place is Palma but can be a bit expensive compared to Palma Nova & Magaluf.

Had 10 days in Palma Nova 4 years ago in early October, hired a car just outside the airport and used Palma Nova as a base. Palma Nova is a decent resort with all the usual facilities, nice beach and a flat area for getting about. I like Majorca, it’s a great Island for exploring.

I find it truly unispiring to be honest. Not being mean but if you fancy the ex-pat thing with McDonalds and plenty of concrete it's probably your thing.

We went into Palma Nova about 11:00 am one day, had a full English breakfast there (about 3 Euro at the time) I didn't realise it came with a free pint of Lager each include in the price.
The breakfast was good, but couldn't face the Larger though
