is anyone able to tell me if there was one particular incident that lead to the initial travel ban and subsequent 'bubble' trips between the two of us?

Last working day before Christmass as well I believe. We were out on the piss at dinner time.

Me too.

I had to check the date but I'm sure it was the last working day.

We were definitely on the piss early.

Yep.

A Tuesday night game.

We were on that poxy little open bank behind the goal.

No roof it f ucking pissed down for 90 minutes they were lobbing bricks over the wall at us at the end.

We won I think Martin Hayes scuffed the winner.

Yes the glyndwr got done over the afternoon of the auto glass game. We went on the football special and got off the train at NP with a huge police escort to the grange end.
Leggy got a stoppage time equaliser at the end of the game and Hayes got the winner right in front of us.
Absolutely soaked like hump said , as wet as Torquay was in the playoffs final away leg in '87(?).
The policeman incident was in 1987/8/9 I think when some swans fan was on the Bob bank he and jumped in to protect him. Got a good few taps and was bleeding but then had a go back with his truncheon! They soon scattered!
Edit - had a great night on the kingsway (bonkers I think) when we got back from the auto glass game. Great days!

They were great days.

Standing on the Grange End that night was not only the wettest I've ever been at a football match but possibly the most miserable as well.

Losing 1-0, 10,000 of those c*nts jumping about celebrating and so bastard wet I could have wrung my kegs out.

Then up pops Leggo in the 88th minute. And then the winner in extra time. Who gives a f*ck about a bit of rain now?

Hell of a journey home on the special. And a few soggy pints to top it off.

I do miss days like that.

The season before the travel ban there was an incident at Sarn Services where a car (or cars?) was turned over by a coachload of Swans supporters, so I thought that was the reason for the ban

The car in question was a mini... and it got turned upside down for no other reason that it was blue! 😂

That was another crazy day, strange looking back that it was a Saturday at the start of the season and not Boxing Day or New Year's Day.

I think 90 odd swans fans got arrested that night.
I know the had to use Bridgend and Porthcawl to hold swans fans arrested

Not sure. I always thought the ban came in after the Battle of Ninian. Can't remember any big incidents after that.

This is what Wiki says:

In September 1988, after seeing their side win in Swansea, a group of Cardiff fans were chased into the sea by a group of Swansea fans. Since then, Swansea fans mockingly suggest to their Cardiff City rivals that they "swim away", in reference to the event.[6]

On 23 December 1993 a match between the two sides was dubbed 'The Battle Of Ninian Park' as Swansea fans were placed in the grandstand for the game. As Cardiff went up 1—0, The Swansea fans began ripping out seats and throwing them at the Cardiff supporters, which resulted in the home fans invading the pitch. The following day national news showing pictures of the violence shocked the nation, forcing the FAW to ban away fans from this fixture for several years, the first fixture in Britain to do so.

We did. Can't remember the year but it was very early in the season.

Edit: It was 29th of August, 1987. We lost 1-0.
