80% of squad quit Martyrs over money row. Such a shame.

I was told that they would play for a month, but wanted settling up after that. So not for free. From a very good source.

Owen Money must be gutted at what's happening to his beloved Merthyr

Danny Gabbidon has chucked them £1000. Fair play.

Good call, all Swansea would need to do would be to agree to send a team up there for game. If they sold 5000 tickets at a fiver each that’s £25k and the bill sorted and a lot of good will towards the Swans in an area that has a fair bit of Cardiff support. It would cost the Club very little to help out.

Man Utd did something similar for Swansea back in the day, not sure what year it was but the Vetch was rammed and a fair bit of wedge was generated.

You may well be right, but it would be a nice gesture and no doubt earn the club some good PR and maybe some. new young supporters.

Why doesn't someone start a crowdfunding campaign?

It could become a community owned club with worldwide backing?

I think it is already a community owned club Ed.

I’ve only now seen this news.

Shocking and sad.
I really hope they turn things around up there.
We have our own issues here at Swansea but imagine 80% of our playing staff being made redundant.

Money is killing football.

Good luck to Merthyr in their quest to get this mess sorted.

It's sad to see Merthyr so far down the football pyramid and experiencing financial problems again.

it was worse not so long ago, they went into administration and had to reform but started again THREE divisions below where they are right now. Three promotions in the space of 5 years have thankfully seen them get back to this current level level.
They were in the play off semis last season. And as it stands they are two promotions away from the conference.

On the field, they seem to have got over that 13-1 drubbing and have started to pick up points again.
Off the field I do not know the full situation up there, but I hope whoever is responsible for getting them into this mess has left.
I still have plenty of optimism for Merthyr Town FC, if they can just get over this tax bill they owe and stabilize their finances. They have cracking club up there, right in the heart of the community.

Good Luck Merthyr Town

ps

Our soft cotton wool lazy players could do themselves a lot of good if they put in a solid days training on a Tuesday and then in the evening go up to Merthyr Town to watch them boys play a league game, which would provide a clear demonstration of what playing with guts, balls, determination and commitment is all about.

Had some lively trips up there back in the day.

Remember one game that got called off when we were almost there, so stopped in some valleys town. We were there about an hour before South Wales finest descended on the place and escorted the coach back to Neath, complete with two constables actually staying on our bus all the way.

Anyone else on the same bus?

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Merthyr I believe have the joint most Southern League titles along with Southampton and spent a few seasons in the Conference (5th Div), they should be a lot higher in the pyramid.
