City Of Culture Result Week on 13:06 - Dec 4 with 4438 views | whoflungdung | BANO BBC this week are featuring all the towns and cities up for it . Coventry feature showed how it was decimated in the eighties and has now been regenerised. Apart from Dylan Thomas and Copper, I'm struggling as to what the BBC could highlight. Sunderland too, has no chance and is as run down as Swansea. Stoke on Trent no better and PAISLEY? I'm wondering how these cities are finalised

You can't think of any culture associated with Paisley? Doesn't the name give a clue? And Stoke-on-Trent? Doesn't ring any bells? Personally I think Liverpool should be awarded this every time it comes up. I know that I, for one, can never hear enough about the Beatles.

The competition is about regeneration so it's about run down places that need investment and not about places that have had fortunes thrown at them.

Perch. I don't care about Liverpool. Every week you make posts slagging off Swansea and how sh*t it is in comparison with Liverpool. Well it's relative isn't it. Because from where I live, Liverpool is a sh*thole. A complete dump. Chelsea fans sing 'we pay your benefits' to a Liverpool fans. Because they think it's a dump where no one works. Give it a sodding rest will you. We get it. You have to convince yourself daily that you made the right decision to move away. But you are insulting virtually everyone on this board by doing so. You don't even live in bloody Liverpool anyway. You do exactly what you accuse people on this board of doing when they live in the Swansea Valley or Neath and visit Swansea - you pop there from time to time. Liverpool is fine - I like it as a city. But it's not Rome is it. So for the love of God, stop going on as though it's some sort of Utopian ideal. It just sounds stupid.

If there was one thing I would guarantee on this thread, it'd be that you would slag Swansea off on it. I would have bet my house on it. Seriously. Think about that.

It’s got very little to do with actual culture. Liverpool and Hull past winners with Coventry current favourites is testament to that. They just can’t really call it ‘city most badly in need of regeneration’ award. I hope we win it, but if we do, it will have nothing to do with Dylan Thomas, copper mines or Rhys Ifans
City Of Culture Result Week on 15:24 - Dec 4 with 4285 views | whoflungdung | With all due respect Liverpool s history of Arts luminaries is pre eminent . Hull has Larkin and huge historical significance . Culture,to me ,means the Arts, music, theatre and the written word and Swansea can stand toe to toe with Paisley ,Stoke and Coventry .

Maybe so, but this award is cultural in name only. They were both also shit-tips in need of regeneration. It’s like Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton winning sports personality.

Aye, Jimmy McGovern and Carla Lane outshine Dylan Thomas and Martin Amis any day of the week. Hull was chosen over Swansea for political reasons. You said earlier that you couldn't think of any reason why Swansea should be featured. [Post edited 4 Dec 2017 15:38]
