Weather Watch 09:05 - Dec 9 with 3849 views | Pegojack | Morning all, I'm leaving for Swansea in an hour and have three choices of route. Either down to Newport then along the M4, or past Brecon then over the Beacons and down through Penderyn to Hirwaun, or past Abergavenny then along the length of the Heads of the Valleys. Normally I go over the Beacons. I've seen pictures of Brynmawr on BBC News this morning and it looks snowbound. Has anyone got any up to date info to help me choose best route? Ta very much.

Thanks, Kn*bhead. Anyone other than the mentally subnormal reading PS this morning?
Weather Watch on 09:25 - Dec 9 with 2376 views | oldcob | Don't think there is a best route, though I'd say avoid the Beacons at all costs. Chepstow races are on today, so the Newport area can't be too bad, and the M4 is clear. Respect for making the effort.

Weather Watch on 09:26 - Dec 9 with 2367 views | bryncochjack | Several people I work with from the Tredegar/Merthyr areas, ie Heads of the Valley failed to get to work yesterday morning and if anything it has frozen more solidly today. I'd avoid high level routes as much as possible.

No problem around Swansea at all, but I'd use the M4 there are some problems on the heads of the valleys

Most Merthyr people are decent hard working people. Don't believe that Valley Police prog that was on recently to be typical. Oh, by the way I'm not from Merthyr.

Weather Watch on 11:11 - Dec 9 with 2092 views | Private_Partz | Check the m50 /A449roundabout if you go that way. There is little work going on there but they were effing around with cones for about two miles. Coming off the M50 on Wednesday took 45 minutes to do one mile.

Great! Can you do Cardigan for me whilst you’re at it? My cousin is up there later on.
Weather Watch on 11:50 - Dec 9 with 2021 views | RevJames | The UK's inability to cope with the smallest snowflake is embarrassing. Anywhere else in Europe, the Alps for example, our 'snow' would be seen as a disappointment. Kids don't get sent home from school "because the boiler broke down" or the bus company stopped operating. That is a ridicuously unfair viewpoint. The reason why the UK never copes with snow is because of how rare it is. Scandinavia is blanketed for months so ne need for gritters. Everyone has wheel chains and 4x4's because it ALWAYS snows. There's far less traffic there i'd wager too.

I doubt we’d be at all happy if the council spent a fortune on the heavy machinery and equipment required to clear all the roads quickly when they only need it once every decade.

Changed yesterday apparently. You need to be in the third lane on the roundabout to go on the M4, not the second lane. [Post edited 9 Dec 2017 12:48]
