Out of contract in June if I'm correct he can start talking to foreign clubs from next month, so why the delay in offering him a contract?

It's all about passion, mun.

See the Roque Mesa thread where a lot of the praise given to him revolves around how much it looked like he cared, rather than the quality of his neat and tidy performance. How he celebrated our goal seems more important to some than how he contributed to the result.

He took a corner, it fell to Wilf - hardly creating a goal. You may as well say that our players pushing their centre halves in to the goalie created the goal. That goal was all bout Wilf's instinct.

You're not right here Tom.

You and others lauding him as some kind of saviour are neglecting to mention that he's one of the reasons we're in this sorry mess. We sold off the crown jewels when we failed to replace the likes of Allen, JdG and Leon - Ki was here then remember and couldn't get a sniff. Now we've been left with the bad apple in the barrel and we're f*cked.

It's not our best midfielder's fault that we sold all the midfielders we had that were better than him.

If that's what you saw then fair enough. What I saw was an inswinging corner that started outside the 6-yard box so the keeper couldn't come for it, and which landed a couple of yards out from the back post. The fact that it fell to Wilf was incidental. That kind of delivery is a nightmare for defenders, and the goalkeeper in particular. Ki gets plenty of pelters on here but he deserves great credit for that delivery.

It's all here. Watch it from side-on.

No, dining out is defined by Montero v Chelsea, Tom Carroll v Liverpool, Mo Barrow v Arsenal. Ki was player of the season, the very definition of a consistent display of quality over an extended period of time.

Itch he’s the only decent midfielder we have at this moment.

He’s out there on his own half the time .

By the way he was player of the year in the most successful season for us in the Prem.

It’s not his fault we’ve ended up with Fer , Clucas , Carrol & Fulton.

And that's how many games he's been good in?
When he's been here how long and number of games?
Or mostly invisible when playing on loan?

At the moment we can't really do without Ki as he's without doubt one of our best players.
Wouldn't have said that when we were running with the likes of JDG, Siggy etc etc if we're just going to talk recent times.
Personally when we call Ki one of our best players it shows how fukin low our DoF has managed to take us/ allowed us to be taken.

Loudstrop loved him that much he fugged him off.
Even if Loudstrop wasn't "going to be forced to play him due to supposed contractual issues" if he'd rated Ki, he'd have kept him.

I'd expect at least 4 or 5 players to be able to take a half decent corner. consistently Doesn't seem like anyone is doing any dead ball training at all- very hit and miss (more miss in Carroll's case!)
If I remember rightly, every manager Siggy has played for has spoken about how long he would spend after training finished just practising hitting a dead ball.
Keepers do the same.

And we must be the only PL side without a specialist free kick / dead ball situation taker.
Many goals come from dead ball situations.
Beaky has allowed us not to have that luxury available.
Knew Siggy was going, should have been looking for a good dead ball taker. Didn't matter if it was a winger, FB, CB or striker or any other position (excluding Beakys favourite No1)

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

"Couldn't get a sniff"

Ki made 29 Premier League appearances in his first season. I think 20 were starts. 2039 minutes out of a possible 3420. He also played in all of our league cup games including 90 minutes away to Liverpool and 90 minutes in both games against Chelsea.

For the record here he was only consistently good for the first half of that season. Went away to the Asia Cup over Christmas, we bought Cork at the end of January, and that and a few knocks meant Ki was a rotational feature until the end of the season.

Did he finish early for surgery that year as well?

Fabianski was my player of that whole season.

It amazes me that some fans would be happy to see him never play for swans again. It’s imperative that he stays fit and continues to play along with Mesa if we are to have any chance this year.

Ki is one of those players like Shelvey and Cork who get nothing but disdain from the fan base, then move on to other clubs and suddenly the realisation dawns that perhaps they weren't so bad after all - especially compared to the players that have replaced them. In fact they look pretty damn good! Shelvey is the midfield engine of the Toon and Cork is looking very polished at Burnley.

Ki is one of our best ball players. He sees passes that other Swans don't. He's also comfortable running with the ball and making ground. He should be encouraged to take more responsibility and try more shots. When he's gone we'll wonder why we let him go.

Again this isn't really the case. His first January game was the full 90 and got an assists in the QPR game before going away for the Asia Cup, then he came back and made 10 consecutive starts scoring 4 goals, then came off the bench for the next two fixtures scoring 1 goal and finally played 74 minutes against Arsenal before missing the last two games with injury.

Fabianski was a good shout for player of the year though.

Exactly. Our problem isn't that we've got players like Ki. It's that we've sold or lost players that have the quality to change games.

Naughton, Carroll, Dyer(?), VDH, Ayew, etc. are fine as part of the squad. We just lack real quality in the final third except Wilf.

Shelvey took Newcastle down? Whenever I've seen Toon he's been on the field and making long accurate passes that we can only dream about these days. As I've said often enough he was the only Swan who could shoot from outside the box and keep the ball below the crossbar - who can do that for us at the moment? You couldn't have been at Fulham or Southampton a few years ago when his late goals won the games for us. In short, if he was on our books at the moment , he'd walk into the current team. No question.
