A lot will depend on the condition of the chimney. You may have to line the inside which can be costly. Building regulations have tightened up greatly in recent times.

Just had this done after my old back boiler finally stopped working. We had a combi fitted then got a log fire put in, which involves opening up the fireplace which is a messy job, then laying a hearth, this is all pretty simple and you can do it yourself if you have the knowhow.

Hard bit is having a new flew installed. This involved working on the roof and top of chimney. We had all the work done by a HETAS registered company. In total it cost us £1700 including the price of the fire.

Thanks Rob, have you got the company details and I can get in touch?

Can't remember exactly but ours was around £1.5k including the burner.

The size of the burner (and cost) will depend on the size of the room you want to heat. A mid size wood (not multi fuel) burner can set you back about £600.

Add in the cost of the pipe up the chimney, lining the old fireplace, a new hearth and labour and you can easily add in another £900 to that.

Then you need to consider where you're going to get the wood from. A tonne builder's bag size of seasoned wood can set you back about £100. The recycled compressed sawdust type 'logs' are quite good and you can get 10 for £5 in B&Q / Homebase.

Oh, and add in the cost of the annual chimney sweep!

This one is re-opening the fireplace as it was taken out about 10 years ago and the wall dry lined. Then widening about a foot either side.

This is for a rented property so not worried about the other costs.

Why would you put a would burner in a rental property, unless it's a holiday let ?
Usually try to trim costs with a rental, plus wood burner puts off ore renters than it attracts

Project submission is something that a student finds very difficult. The task becomes tiring and tough when you have to submit more than one project at the same time.

It's more to do with resolving a chimney issue which seems to me sucking in moisture and causing a damp problem so killing two birds with one stone. I want to sell this property but a buyer is causing a lot of issues thanks to his mortgage so improving the property resolving damp issue etc

Makes sense then.
Cheaper alternative could be to remove the chimney and cap it (allowing ventilation of course) and hire an industrial dryer and dehumidifier for a couple of weeks ?
Otherwise you may spend up to £2k and still not cure your problem ?
All the best anyway

I installed mine myself. Fitted a 25 year flue, and bought a Parkray slimeline consort Stove,£800 and they come with a 10 year warranty. Had it 7 years and only thing we have had to replace is the door ropes.

Dont go for a cheap stove as they warp apparently. Or if the glass smash on the front they are hard to replace.

Also buy a eco fan to sit on top of the stove. Swirls the air from the stove around the room.

Take a walk between Oxwich and Slade, there’s enough wood washed up on the rocks there to keep you going for months.
