Is it that different? A hedge fund, using other people's money to try and make money, getting major decisions wrong and mismanaging relationships with supporters?

A few worrying parallels there for me.

Unfortunately it is the American way of doing business, Hedge (Sludge) Funds, Leveraged buyout, and then it turns to custard claim chapter seven bankruptcy to walk away from debts and do it all again. A certain President Trump has been a master of it.
