Any of you learned ones in the know with regards to this?

Looking at buying a house that has it, no evidence of bore-holes so look like it was done when it was built in the mid to late 80's. I've read some issues should it get damp.

Bottom line, is this a good or bad thing to have? Thanks in advance.

Still following Dr's orders!

Building regs 6* cavity in Swansea area due to volume of rain

Re-read that one Dyfnant, are you saying that cavities shouldn't be filled, if that's the casr they shouldn't be doing it, as I said they carryout surveys these days, which they never used to, I'm in Neath but same rules should apply as in Swansea.

IT depends on the cavity size .

All should be surveyed

Any new builds in our area should have 6” cavities. insulation boards are then ok.

We have just spent 1000s on extraction and a rerender also a new skim over the plaster inside which was done 2 years ago before we found the damp problems.
The installation was soaked right through

We had to take down the walls of an extension we were having built, 3 exterior walls that a dimwit was 90% of the way from finishing with 4” cavities, ties running from high to low ( outer to inner) and packed the cavity with rock wool. Cost us a fortune but would’ve been a never ending horror story if it wasn’t for the building inspector

Builder should have covered the rebuild costs, he should know the regs if he wouldn't I would have sacked him off and sued him for the extra cost

Mine had a survey, they put it in regardless. The CIGA bloke took one look at my house, didn't need to inspect it, and stated it shouldn't ever have gone on. That was enough.

Well... we have ciga warranty on ours...inherited bungalow..but updating involved going through brickwork to increase bathroom ventilation. We knew we had graphite glue bead insulation...but no it turned out was white grainygranules and so some fell out ..we realise we now have a void to top part of a gable end of bungalow...so contacted ciga for advice ie remove completely and go back to scratch or if no dampness as so far none...do we leave well alone. Im assuning warranty is voided anyway due to disturbance being caused but anyone any suggestions ?

Can cause horrendous damp and condensation issues. I have 24 inch poll stonewalls (built in 1916). Warm in winter. Cool in summer. Proper joists too.

Apparently there are companies that now specialise in getting the insulation removed and getting your money back.

We bought a house to help my son and daughter in Law to get on the property ladder.
After having inside renovated and reskitmmed patches started to appear,
After getting experts to examine the walls there was cavity wall insulation which was damp.
Anyway £8000 later having to get it extracted and the outside walls rerendered.
If you can find the certificates for the wall installation you can claim the money back.
Unfortunately the company did not register the house we bought
