Booking Fees Grrrrrrrr 12:09 - Jan 9 with 22786 viewsoldgrey

Went to get my Wolves ticket this morning.
Cash sale.
Was overjoyed to see a £2.50 booking fee added.
Apparently since 3 January.
The man did tell me that credit card fees stop from the 13 January.
Are these robbin' Americans reduced to this type of money making scam now?

Reduced booking fee for online sales is ideal. I no longer have to pay £3 extra for every away match I go to.

Yeah, this is great, as long as you only ever attend matches on your own then you're quids in...

Everyone else is getting charged more.

The difference between this and most booking fees at theatres, cinemas, concerts, etc is that there is normally a way of actually paying the advertised price for a ticket. By showing up in person, and perhaps when there, paying cash.

In this case, although tickets are advertised at £20, or £10, there is absolutely no way of buying them for that price.

It's an utter disgrace. As is hiding behind legislation changes to do it. The legislation change was supposed to ensure people using cards were not ripped off. It is not an acceptable solution to rip everyone else off as well.

Were the Trust consulted on this in advance?

I saw a post on social media that only Wigan have introduced this fee. Other clubs have not.

Pearlman should make a statement.

And yet again, another PR own goal.

Well there you go then. Not Just Another Football Club

Just Another Wigan.

Perlman has one objective. Increase revenue streams for the club.

He doesn't know the area', the culture or history of the people or have any respect for the commitments they show or the hardships they face

Someone needs to have a word in his ear, starting the conversation 'now listen ere butt' - it sure as hell won't be Jenkins, Dineen or Morgan and the Trust don't have any influence.

There is only one thing for it.

Don't buy the fecking tickets!

Seeing as the Mayor of Liverpool has referred the Ross Barkley transfer to the police, shouldn't this type of profiteering from EU legislation be taken up by the local MP or EMP?

Even though the club are ripping fans off with this new £2.50 service charge.....

The new law comes in to force on the 13th January... banning surcharges on credit and debit card payments.....

The new law states

"Companies may charge new service fees to ALL customers. Firms can do this as long as the fees apply no matter which method of payment you use."

So if a business decides to charge a service fee, then they must charge this for credit, debit and CASH sales

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

The extra booking charge now makes it an easy decision for a few thousand fans who were 50/50 on going to this game.
My guess is that as a result of this, receipts for this game will now be down by at least £30,000

It's the club. They've openly stated that they are passing running costs incurred on to the fans.

It could add close on £500,000 to Club income thru a season. A relative pittance in Premier League terms and certainly not worth pissing off supporters over. Is it surprising? Certainly not.

Another own goal by the Trust...

"Whilst we were informed of the new fee structure in December, and were assured that it was revenue neutral, we did not appreciate the impact that it would have, in particular on fans paying cash at the ticket office. The FA Cup replay against Wolves has brought this into sharp focus."

...and here you have it, banned from charging so charging anyway.

"The club say that the new charges are “largely due to new Government legislation being introduced around credit card fees” which sees companies banned from charging customers for using a card payment from January 13. Card companies still charge businesses fees for transactions, with Swansea saying the new booking fee offsets some of these costs."

Card companies charge the club, the club passes the charge on, and a bit more probably. Sorted.

The credit card fees change is disingenuous. It’s just a cash grab.

They could be badly embarrassed there if a real journalist looked at the credit card merchant charges, which are capped, versus the level of transaction fee. I doubt that ‘revenue neutral’. Also of course, revenue neutral is meaningless when it used to be people choosing to pay it and causing the club to incur a charge, versus everyone having to pay it without being a cost driver at all.

It’s just more bollocks from a totally bollocks club that has completely lost itself. It’s not all it will have lost soon either. I bet season ticket renewals to date are an eye opener.

the word largely gives the game away.

"largely due to new Government legislation "

Were the Trust asked or just told about this introduction and why didn't they get on the front foot and put a statement out disassociating themselves from this.

5/10 years ago - the club would have covered the £2.50 cost and other clubs would have looked at us and admired what we had done.

Now it is one mistake after another. Pearlman should confirm how much is "largely" is it £1.60 of the £2.50 etc? Pearlman should also offer an official apology.
