I thought Ki had a reasonable game. He spread the ball better than anyone else and hardly lost the ball, especially compared to everyone else.
I think he ran out of steam towards the end but he did his best, which is all we can ask.

So much angst after taking Liverpool's unbeaten run from them in a defensive masterclass.
Ki played very well IMO - yes he marks space, but his strength is a good level of anticipation. On the face of it his interception count was pretty high last night from being in the right place at the right time - he then distributed it well, taking pressure off the team...right up until the 70th minute when he was clearly knackered.
A lot on here would the first to moan if he went sliding in hard and aggressive, ended up on his arse as Mane or Salah glided past. Sometimes staying in your feet and taking players wide is more effective.
Fer was a revelation - I thought I saw him sprint back from a forward position at least once last night ;)
I also thought big TC did well running the channels and keeping possession when he came on - unlike Wilf who was shite and kept getting brushed off by Klavan and VVD and left 5 yards from a header attempt.

Ability wise he's up there. Getting it out of him consistently is the problem. For me he generally plays too deep.

Your first two sentences about Fer are spot on. He definitely has ability and in general is very good technically, but has to be one of the laziest players I've ever seen. For someone whose best position is box-to-box, it's an absolute joke and he is a complete liability 90% of the time.
He does seem to actually show up and try a little bit for the big games, so I guess that's notable. In no way does that come close to making up for his useless trotting around, clumsy and reckless fouls, lackadaisical dawdling on the ball and cheap giveaways, and overall disinterest in showing any heart for the greater good of the team.
Spot on about Naughton and Ki, we've all seen enough of them to know what they're about at this point. It honestly seems they're so disappointing on such a consistent basis that any mediocre game by them is hailed as being good. Naughton being an automatic starter and Ki being preferred over Mesa is a travesty. |  | | |
