BMW 118d in Snow :( 15:42 - Feb 12 with 5412 viewswestwalesed

Now I know all the stereotypes about BMW drivers, but I promise I'm not one of them! At the age of 35 and years working in the charitable sector I finally managed to get a "grown up car" a few months ago. I easily drive 200 miles a day for work, so I wanted something comfortable to zip around in after years of clapped out Clios, Nissans and Daewoos.

Anyway - rear wheel drive, punchy engine, in the snow! Absolute fecking shambles! Even a hint of snow on the road and I'm sliding about all over the shop. And that's driving super carefully too!

Anyone got any advice for me????
I'm going to buy all weather tyres as soon as mine run out!

My advice would be to do your research. I've had two beamers and I love them but you wouldn't catch me driving one in the snow.

Part ex it for an Audi or a Merc.

BMW's are without doubt, far inferior to their competitors in my experience. I'd never buy another one anyway.

My wife has an Audi at the moment and I can't find fault with it but I wouldn't choose one over a BMW. Never owned a Merc, would like one but not C Class - had one as a company cat and it was sh!t.

I've had BMWs and Mercs and the BMWs are miles better in my opinion.

All personal preference though I guess.

Plus they are shíthot on fuel i got a 2.0d 190bhp and we took it to London ploding along at 60/70mph and it returned 65mpg and normal around town it returns 50mpg.

Sorry, I will give BM's that, they are tidy on fuel (dependant on model and age).

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

No Saturday. We were 1-0 down and won through goals by Danny Graham and Gylfi. The one good thing was the goals were at our end and we were in the front row near the goal.

Don’t be silly. Americans bought Swansea City but they aren’t an American club.

Try a few sandbags or some other reasonably heavy load in the boot. Used to work wonders in the old 3 series.

W really fecked me off today was that it was a crisp, clear Pembrokeshire day, then five minutes of heavy snow and hail out of nowhere, about an inch settled and I was utterly fecked!

I agree wholeheartedly. Except for the runflat crap they insist on putting on the wheels, although I think Merc are also going down that road too.

45 to the gallon out of a 5.4s 0-60 3 litre twin turbo too. Cracking cars.

The 320D estate with M pack I used to have was a great car and i really enjoyed driving it, but it was utterly useless in snowy conditions because of the rear wheel drive.

Are there ANY rear wheel drive cars good in snow conditions?

Buy a set of Snow Socks they work well I'm told, work supplies them to us, but haven't had call to use them as of yet, other than that winterised tyres although for the amount of snow we get they are probably not worth the cost,

My advice is:
1) Keep the car now that you've made the purchase.
2) Give up any hope of driving it when its snowed. Fortunately that doesn't happen very often.
3) Don't bother with winter tyres.
4) RWD can be a right handful on wet greasy roads as well so take it easy.
5) Familiarise yourself with the indicators and their functionality.
