Russian hooligans 23:49 - Feb 22 with 4442 viewssainthelens

Trouble in Bilbao tonight with Spartak Moscow fans results in the death of a copper. Disgusting scenes, when will they eventually ban this lot? Any sign of trouble abroad from Brits is jumped on by authorities. World cup gonna be a bloodbath.

World Cup preview!

Why the fcuk is Russia allowed in UEFA?

Led by a dictator and his oligarch mafia who is actively interfering in elections and attempting to undermine western democracies and alliances. Actually fcuking invaded parts of Georgia and Ukraine and threatens other EU countries. Responsible for shooting down a plane full of Dutch citizens over Ukraine. World renown performance enhancing drug cheats. Plenty of racist, homophobic goons as witnessed at Euro2016.

Why do you welcome these people to your stadiums??? Boot them the fcuk out to the Asian Federation where they belong!

Everyone knows that the Russia World Cup bid was bent, so why are they allowed to keep it?

Same with Qatar. The most inappropriate place possible. Clearly a bung went in.

As the op says, there's going to be carnage. The Russian yobs are organised and vicious.

Ah the English boys will have heavy numbers and a few plastic chairs to sort the Russians out with.

*This thread patiently awaits Perchy to awake from his slumber, to tell us all that we all love the Russians on here and hate the yanks.

Shouldn't be long...

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Let's keep off the politics for a minute and keep to the football part as Russia's not as bad as the western press want you to believe. The hooligans though, most certainly are.

As you all know, they train for these events and derby matches in Russia are just excuses for gangs to have organised fights. It's like Britain in the 70s and 80s, but these fighters are real fighters, not pub fighters with a few tattoos and beer bellies. One of these Russians would easily take out 3 or 4 of the average British hooligans, just as any trained boxer or martial arts fighter could.

What they don't get is that most of the fans who support England now aren't the same as followed them in the 80s. They still think the English fans want a brawl and seeing them behave like 'lager louts' in places like the Euros two years ago doesn't help change that opinion.

The World Cup has potential to be a disaster but I don't believe for one second that Putin & Co don't have a plan for this. They have an incredible number of riot police, militia, police, etc as well as the army to call on to prevent these things from happening. I think they will announce strict sentences for hooliganism in advance of the World Cup and insist on a zero tolerance approach. If anyone wants trouble, they'll get it from the authorities.

These Russian hooligans might mess with the local riot police or police abroad normally, but they won't mess with Putin. They won't risk getting caught if the penalties are significantly increased, but I think they'll struggle to get any opportunities anyway as the riot police/militia presence will be huge.

There's no way that Putin will allow a few hundred or a few thousand idiots spoil this opportunity to show the world how wonderful a country Russia really is. You wouldn't believe the preparations that have been going on for a couple of years here now. They've even torn up every single pavement in the centre, widened them to allow more pedestrians and lined every street with trees. They have washed and painted the fronts of every single building in the centre of Moscow as well as adding new metro stations and better signs for English speakers. That's a lot of work for a city with around 20 million people living in it!

All of this is cosmetic, of course, but I really believe that there's a plan in place to make sure the hooligans have a limited impact, if any at all. I wouldn't be surprised if hundreds of them were jailed for the duration of the World Cup, just in case!

Poll: Simple...would you want Leon in the squad right now, if he was available?

Have you seen the documentary Icarus? One of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. Shows Putin up for exactly what he is. A horrible ruthless scumbag.

I've seen documentaries (not Russian made) that portray Putin in completely the opposite light.

There are two sides to every story but most people only believe the one they are told. That's why these documentaries are made.

I would far more prefer someone like Putin over most of the pathetic 'leaders' that the UK and US have had!

Factually there was no trouble at all at the Russia vs Wales Euro16 match in Toulouse.
Just for balance.

Dreadful news though. So sad to read.

I believe any world events should avoid Russia at all costs

Moscow Jack is an exceptional man ,however

I believe 90 per cent of their sportsmen and women doped under the former Eastern bloc days and no medal won should stand .

It's not hooliganisim but organised violence .and it's not the Daily Mail saying so

Well, he's jailed an opposition leader (whose apartment I live in now, funnily enough) but he was jailed for huge corruption and organising non-approved protests (every sort of protest needs a sort of local council approval - he knows this and nearly every protest he has made has had approval, so why does he do an approved protest for any other reason than publicity.

Also, he went after Putin for corruption (and Putin's definitely corrupt) but when they dug a little on him, they found all sorts too. Pot. Kettle. Black.

Also, you have to understand who's funding the opposition too. Those people make Putin look like a saint!

I'm not saying Putin's perfect - he's far from it - but he's doing the right thing for this country. Some of the things aren't acceptable at times, but it's no worse than the UK or US are doing in the name of "democracy". People who think otherwise are either badly informed or naive.

Sad to hear the death of this policeman, but he died in hospital from a cardiac arrest, after being taken ill outside the stadium.

And there were only 5 arrests, 3 Russians and 2 Spaniads

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

I personally believe that most of the top athletes take performance enhancing drugs but some have the money to mask it better. I agree that most eastern european athletes are doped too, but I am pretty sure that they're just less professional at it than the Brits, Yanks, etc.

I don't understand the difference between hooliganism and organised violence - it's basically the same thing in many cases. The Russian version of hooliganism is extremely well organised and they believe the Brits are too, when the truth is that the Brits just get p!ssed up in the sun and suddenly think that they're hard!

Icarus is about the Russian doping scandal. If you haven’t seen it it’s on Netflix. Truly staggering what went on and Putin, the KBG and his Vice President were very much in the loop.

So what? I don't really care, to be honest. I'm sure the US and UK governments knew that the SKY racing team were giving their cyclists naughty substances. If they didn't, it's because they didn't want to know.

Nearly all of them are doping....just some are better at hiding it! Russians are guilty of not hiding it as well as the others are.

Ps it wouldn't surprise me if the Russian government sponsored doping, in the same way the Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Africans, etc do too. Personally, I'd love to see an Olympics where everyone is allowed drugs....the 100m in 3 seconds, 40m long jump, 1 hour marathons, etc.....it would be brilliant!
