Corbyn landslide... 22:40 - Mar 4 with 41777 viewsKerouac

...people, daft people, keep telling me that Corbyn is going to lead Labour to a landslide victory at the next election.

Really?

Can I take a straw poll of those on here who believe a party who appoints people like this;

...who in turn appoints advisers like this;

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5458719/Labour-leader-pressure-gay-MP-sa

...who comes out with shite like this;

She said: ‘I practise witchcraft. It’s something I’ve always been attracted to and I like it because it’s female-centric. I feel most religions are driven by and tailored for men.’

She added: ‘It interests me because it’s part of my ancestry — voodoo is more entwined in black identity than Christianity.’

Other pearlers include;
She called the suffragettes "white supremacists" and claimed that white people are "socially conditioned to be racist".

Labour will romp home at the next election.

And that's coming from me, who predicted that the Blue Bastards would get in by, and I quote, "A gnats cock", at the last GE.

Lump on.

For Labour to romp home at the next election requires people that last time voted for someone else to have been persuaded over to Labour this time.

I don't believe Corbyn has done anything to persuade anyone to move over to him. If anything, he and the movement to the harder left with momentum will have hardened the attitudes of those that are against him / them.

Corbyn fans will have intensified their support, but they can't vote more than once for him however fervent their love.

Does he persuade those that waver? I don't believe so. His recent conversion to the joys of the EU will also persuade some that supported him last time back to UKIP. If anything, I can see their vote fall.

Lot to happen between now and then though, so who knows.

Perhaps not comparable to, but there are many particularly on the front bench who admire Mao and have openly championed him as a force for good in the world. Dianne Abbott of course famously said on live TV that Mao on balance did more good than harm, whilst McDonnell read from Maos little red book at the despatch box.

Now imagine what the reaction would be if someone like Boris started quoting Mein Kampf or saying "well at least hitler got people working again". There'd be f*cking uproar.

Evil systematic mass murder and genocide is terrible whether it's caused by extremist right or extremist left totalitarian dictatorships. Denying the holocaust or holding nazi rallies is illegal in a lot of countries, yet we still have leading labour politicians able to march under flags of Stalin and Mao.

Does nobody else see the problem here?

I wouldn't disagree in fairness. I'd suggest those that carry the hammer and sickle and hold up pictures of 'Uncle Joe' need to read some Solzhenitsyn.

I will say in McDonnell's defence the reason he mentioned Mao in the dispatch box was in response to the Tories selling off bits of the national grid to the Chinese, and Cameron's ludicrous Hinckley Point deal. Unless you're talking about a different occasion.

For the record I don't disagree with you. McDonnell and Abbot are political idiots, especially making statements about the benefits of Maoism. I espouse the murderous far left regimes of the 20th century as much as the ones on the far right.

On a different note, the newly released film "The Death of Stalin" provides a hilarious and somewhat unsettling satirical insight into the ensuing power struggle that followed Stalin's death. Great gags, great cast but hits too close to home sometimes.

Oh no you don't. Really.

Labour will win the next election, looking after the disabled poor and stop the rich getting richer, simple as that.

A good few of us meet up for a couple of beers every Sunday, we normally don't talk politics, but someone brought up Corbyn in passing.

Everyone and I mean every one said they could never vote for Corbyn for one reason or another, I was a little surprised as they have all been staunch Labour voters all their live.

You mistake how much research people put into politics.

We live in the world of Facebook now, where any meme or quote is taken as gospel.

I'll stick with they'll romp it, based on nothing more than speaking to people in passing, up and down the country. It was spot on last time.

Could have been beginners luck of course, and couldn't possibly be more reliable than some of the big politicos and their musings on here

I'm not suggesting anyone does any research at all to be honest.

I'm suggesting that for Labour to get a landslide, it needs people who voted Tory to switch.

I don't think Tory voters find Corbyn appealing. He's the definition of preaching to the converted as political leaders go.

If anything, some Labour voters won't vote for him and will vote for UKIP again.

I don’t know anyone who thinks Corbyn is going to win a landslide. It’s arguable whether Labour will win at all although it should be streets ahead given the incompetence of the incumbents. Even as a “leftie” I’m struggling to envisage a scenario whereby Corbyn steps into Downing Street after accepting the Queen’s invitation.

Burty. Burty on here thinks he will.

I’ve just this morning come back from a few days in Rome, Clase. It’s astonishing how staid our politics here are in comparison. That is both a good and a bad thing when you weigh it, I suppose. The bad being our seemingly boundless capacity to silently endure decline, the good being the fact we don’t try and kill each other over a difference of opinion.

True that.

If Keir, Chuka, or Dai Miliband was in charge it would be a landslide.

Even if you are a leftie or you hate the Tories, a vote for Jeremy Corbyn is a vote to kill our country.

He is a dishonest man with not so hidden agendas.

Socialism fails everytime. It fails badly. Great for 5 years for us common folk then it descends into chaos.

The best countries in the world with the best standard of living all have strong economies. There will be no NHS without capitalism or a strong economy.

Theresa May only took the PM job to stop Leadsom or Gove getting it and rightly so. She is not a leader and hates every minute but she is better than than any alternatives at the time.

I hope everyone sees sense and vote Conservative until there is a real alternative.
