Carlos worked out a formation that worked with this squad, something Clement could never do. The funny thing is, Carlos has done that with 3 CBs, something Clement was routinely criticised for. The difference is of course, we're playing 5 defenders but in a way that allows us to attack and threaten. |  | | |

The 5-3-2 formation under Calvahal is a masterstroke but yet so simple.........its not a rigid 5-3-2.
He has three centre halves with two wing backs who are asked to get forward.
In midfield he has one sitter and another who just plays infront, the left midfielder(Clucas) is asked to supprt the left wing back.
Up top he has one of them supporting the Right Wing back.
So fluid and can be interchanged so easily......really impressed. |  |

I'm convinced Clement will return to the Premier League under Ancelotti as he takes over Chelsea or Arsenal honestly. I think there is no doubt that he's a great coach but a great manager he is not.
Can do the job in the Championship maybe but Carlos has shown him up BIG time. Mind you remember how much on an influence A. Ayew and King had on that most recent game - three assists and a goal between them both. I doubt we would have seen the same result without them. |  | | |

Guidolin was a tactician who devised systems to suit the players at his disposal. Monk and Clement were more about fitting the players they had into the systems they wanted. Bradley just wasn’t good enough.
So far, Carvahal seems like a far better (not meant disrespectfully) version of Guidolin. Will be very interesting to see if the owners learn from their mistakes and treat him better, both in the summer transfer market and if he has a bad run of results. | | | |

I remember the same wild comments being made about Clement after his first run of games.
We need to be careful that we're not over-hyping Carlos. He's had an incredible effect on the positivity of the team but Guidolin and Clement had similar effects too.
I've said, on a different thread, how wonderful he's been but there's a big difference between being a troubleshooter and someone who can build a longer-lasting plan. He hasn't had 17 different clubs without a good reason!
Let's embrace him, prey that he keeps us up and then look at all of our options in the summer. Carlos could be one of the best options, but we would be idiots not to learn from the mistakes made with Guidolin and Clement.
All it might take is giving Carlos better backing than the previous two had, but if that's the case then we (and he!) need guarantees that money will be spent to improve the team.
If I was him I'd also need a guarantee that the recruitment team is replaced asap although after managing 17 clubs he probably knows most of the professional players in this world ;) | |

It's the biggest single difference, as it means we're able to press, turn from defence into attack quickly, and change shape depending on whether we have the ball or not.
