PM Statement on Chemical Attack in the UK 17:20 - Mar 12 with 36691 viewswestwalesed

Extraordinary statement by Mrs May and also quite scary.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43377856

She has essentially said that the Russian Government is "highly likely" to have carried out a Chemical Attack on the United Kingdom, using a "military grade nerve agent" developed by the Russian Military and threatening hundreds of British Citizens. This is incredibly worrying.

On another note, Mr Corbyn in his response attempted to conflate donations from Russian Oligarchs to the Conservative Party with this act. Disgraceful.

However we are in fact morally superior to the Russian Government. We apologise and try to make amends. They lie and deny. They shoot passenger planes out of the sky, kill dissidents with poisons that could kill thousands. Get your tongue out of Putin's arse and admit that there's a difference. You may think that there isn't much of a difference but it's there.

Nothing is ever equal in this world so who do you think has acted better even if only slightly? Serious question.

We back a regime that shot dead 55 unarmed protesters yesterday and wounded nearly 3000. We've also armed foreign insurgents including Al Qaeda (of WTC fame) and Isis (we even took out Syrian airfields to protect them!) to invade and destabilize a sovereign state because we want cheaper gas from the gulf.

Just a little more "balance" there for you Glyn.

Hardly a peaceful protest trying to violently invade Israeli but when have you ever let thye truth influence your bigoted views.

"some 40,000 Palestinians had taken part in "violent riots" at 13 locations along the Gaza Strip security fence.

Palestinians hurled stones and incendiary devices, while the Israeli military used tear gas and live fire from snipers."

Here you go Glyn1.

This is what our morally superior culture has been up to - but it is ok because we apologise for it afterwards?

http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk

"The Prime Minister acknowledged that Britain should have realised sooner that its international allies were involved in unacceptable practices, implying criticism of Libya for torturing suspects as well as the CIA's practice of rendition.’

This is so naïve it makes Pollyanna look like Machiavelli, and would be rather sweet if it didn’t involve people being chained up, starved, hooded, wrapped in duct tape, kidnapped by operatives of the Land of the Free and crammed into secret jails, and then loaded on to unmarked aircraft for a trip to one of the world’s worst tyrannies.

There’s a little side-bar to it, as well, which I find intensely moving. I don’t have much time for John McCain in general, though (like any sentient being) I have always felt that he conducted himself with extreme courage and dignity during his nightmare captivity in North Vietnam.

Now Senator McCain is very ill and close to death. The Guardian notes : ‘This is a very live issue indeed. In Washington, Gina Haspel is currently having her confirmation hearings as Donald Trump's new CIA director. From 2002, Ms Haspel ran the secret CIA centre in Thailand where inmates were tortured and where Ms Boudchar [Belhaj’s wife, pregnant at the itme of her state-sponsored kidnap] was mistreated. Mr Trump supports torture. He wants to bring back waterboarding. John McCain, the only US senator to have actually been tortured, is fighting Ms Haspel's nomination on that basis.’"

Quite interesting point in that article about Erdogan

http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk

"And then let us note the arrival in London of Mr Recep Tayip Erdogan, President of Turkey, whose sinister nature has many times been discussed in this blog, and whose rapidly darkening country I have twice visited to document this. Mr Erdogan has in recent months turned what was a fairly free and law-governed country into a despotism. The prisons are full of journalists. The courts are lawless instruments of state power. Independent newspapers and broadcasters have been terrified into submission. Mr Erdogan is gathering all the power in Turkey into his person, and creating an executive presidency at least as menacing to a free society as Vladimir Putin’s.

His foreign policy is also highly dangerous, and is causing grave friction in Syria. Oh, and Turkey still occupies North Cyprus, which it invaded in July 1974 in an action which is an extraordinarily close diplomatic and political parallel to Vladimir Putin’s seizure of Crimea in 2014.

Yet Mr Erdogan is not called a pariah, and is to be welcomed at Downing Street and given tea with the Queen (as well as offered excellent deals on military equipment), photo opportunities and developments which will help him , in a rapidly approaching election, to consolidate his despotic power.

So, Mr Parker, What About That? What about Mr Belhaj? And What About Mr Erdogan? Is your wrath at Russia genuine? If it is, why do you not feel it for those who took part in the sordid kidnapping and rendition of Mr Belhaj, and who defend or excuse torture as an instrument of the state? And why do you not make speeches in Berlin (or come to that in Birmingham or Basildon), attacking Turkey?"

After she lied to the country over windrush? Fair enough.

Over Putin?

Yes. Anyone that wouldn't has a seriously warped view of the world.

Windrush is an appalling scandal - you may find that I raised it on this board as I find it so horrifying, but to compare her to Putin (or any British politician to Putin for that matter) is insane.

A warped view of the world? Maybe it's the world that's warped??

Yes, Putin. The man who is the only leader serious enough to try to block WW3 from starting whilst our great and good are supporting the Israelis and Saudis complicity with arms . Trump has virtually given Israel carte blanche to start attacking the Iranians over their non existent nuclear arms programme.

As for this deadly nerve agent attack, Sergei Skripal seems to have waltzed out of hospital too.

I await the news conference where he and Julia tell all. Oh no I won't, that's never going to happen is it?

I doubt we will ever see those two alive again.

Either you've not flown into the UK or you are being disingenuous. There are two lanes in that section with the internal gates automatically opening and closing. So if a pair travelling arrive at the gates at the same time they will travel through them in near identical time.

So as to your question...you are either an idiot, you are pushing an agenda or both. Hope this helps.

Thanks for clarifying.

Yes all entry point for uk inbound flights are exactly the same. Hence your confidence.

Its not near identical times. Its identical.

They are not together, or it would be one photo.

When do you think Russia will have the capability to have hit men who can get the job done and not leave a trail that leads straight back to Russia...?

Maybe the timing of this around Brexit and the Russian hosted world cup is just one of thise things ?

And always pick a target that you held for years and could have killed previously with no questions asked.

And the location of the attack, 7 miles from Porton Down the UK Chemical Weapons establishent means nothing.

The fact that police sealed the house with pets inside, who then died of starvation, in no way reflects on the professionalism of the investigating officers.

Britain is always best.

The government and CPS must be relatively confidence they have the right men to go public with this, but I do keep an open mind. I dare say the prevalence of CCTV in the U.K. is a big factor which would assist the investigation, but on the other hand it may be a case of the Russians didn’t really care.

In terms of the pets, I don’t think you can link that in anyway to the “professionalism” of the investigation officers. There were you 3 people in hospital including a police officer who had visited the house, the source of the poisoning was unknown, do you think they would risk anybody else being exposed to rescue pets which may have already been dead following exposure? I would say it was professional to lock the house up so that no one else was put at risk until they had whatever resources they needed to deal with the situation.

It was not deliberate.
I dont think they would willingly starve animals to death.

The more sinister aspect was incinerating the animal bodies in porton down.
