Roger Kirkpatrick (Mr Pickwick) the best referee I've ever seen. Respected by the likes of Dennis Law, George Best, Mike Summerbee etc
He let footballers play football, and refereed with a smile on his face, but he was no pushover!!
Dennis Law thought so much of him, he asked him to referee his testimonial match against Ajax.
If only the likes of Madley could have watched him and learned How to referee a match

Mark Clattenburg was the only Briton on FIFAs long list for Moscow 2018 when the list was drawn up in 2016. He then buggered off to Saudi for the cash leaving not a single Briton on the list and hence no one going. | |

Sian Massey is not going for the simple reason that teams of officials are taken to the World cup. One referee plus two assistant referees. No English referee going to no assistant referees go.
This prevents the farcical situation on 1966 when the Russian linesman told the Referee (not sure which country he came from) in Russian that the ball had not crossed the line. The referee misunderstood awarded the goal and England won the world cup.
All three match official now speak the same language
FIFA not longer consider the Official from Scotland or Wales for their long list as their respective League are not considered to be of sufficient standard to produce top class referees. | |
